Thank you Alex. This course really made me understand how Chef works. Your patience was remarkable when it came to labs making sure you showed us as many scenarios as possible.

The tutor explains what sudo means *every* time he uses it. He tells us what cd, mkdir and other unix entry level commands mean again and again and again (get my drift). ZzzzZZZzzzzzZZZzzzzZZzzzz I want to learn Chef, not how change directory. I’m only 1 hour into a 3 hour course, so maybe I’m being a bit harsh … I may change this review later Sorry Alex, but this is not great….. I’m at templates section now and I think you’ll agree that the concept is a little more advanced that cd by hey,.. no illustrations and a very labored description of what we can all see is on the screen. How about a diagram to show the relationship between the file resource, the template and the resulting file? Rating going down…. a few more lectures to go….. Course Completed,…. If I didn’t appreciate how hard it is to create a course, I’d request my money back. Sorry (again) Alex, but I would not recommend this course to anyone : (

Good.

There’s some differences between the course and the environment that a less experienced user might not know how to rectify. However, anyone with a little sysadmin experience could handle this just fine.

Great course. Gets your head in the game quickly. Course progresses smoothly and is concise. Labs are very useful in illustrating points. Course needs minimal updating to account for slight changes in Cloud9. However, the student can complete the course as is.

Great introduction to the chef system. Very minor errata in a couple of slides. Overall, well paced and clear. Did not require anything fancy to follow along other than a virtual ubuntu guest on my desktop.

This was exactly what I needed to get started using Chef at work. Not only did I learn the basics, but what was even more helpful was that there were some good googling tips in there as well, which definitely saved me some time. Loved using cloud9, it’s unfortunate that it’s moving to aws.

One of the better Chef courses on Udemy for beginners. Alex is really great teacher and his communication is clear. The course is outdated, but still a good course none the less.
Alex Campos –
It was quite good, I especially enjoyed following along the labs. Quick tip, using a few simple commands from Docker you can follow along in your own terminal with minimal hassle!
Patrick Camargo –
It was a great crash course and introduction to Chef, but to really get going you will need additional courses.
