If you’re ready to take your game development skills up a notch, then you’ve come to the right place! This course is designed to be taken after my beginners course, so if you haven’t yet, start there!
We’ll be creating a full tower defense game from scratch, with all the assets provided. In this course we’ll be using dozens of new functions, and old ones, to get our game to behave exactly the way we want. I’ll introduce you to powerful new concepts like parents and code inheritance, changing the way you create games and code in general. We’ll also tackle paths, surfaces, transitions, advanced drawing, and more!
I’m super stoked to share this with you, and I hope you’re excited to learn. We’ll be covering a ton of information, so buckle up and get ready to learn!

If you’re already even just a little bit familiar with GML, Aaron takes you to a whole other level. Everything is explained clearly, and in no time you’ll be able to use what he’s taught in your own projects. For more complicated parts, I recommend commenting the code with the Lecture number and time stamp so you can easily find the video again and listen to Aaron explain the code.

The course was fantastic but there was a problem generating the certificate. Not sure what’s up.

I did learn some new stuff

Great course. It covers lot of aspects. The teacher speaks cleary. I reccomended for beginner start and also to refine some skills.

This course definitely builds strongly onto the previous ‘beginners’ course and jam packs in a lot of new theory and concepts. I like how Aaron manages to put a whole host of new information into a single game (somewhat shoe horned). It really helps getting to grips with the GMS2 software and it’s abilities. My main gripe with the course however is that 2/3 the way through it becomes more of a ‘type along with me’ scenario. Instead of functions and concepts being thoroughly explained as they are in the beginning they become more type it out and execute it. Admittedly there’s a lot of content to cover in this section. However, I feel this section could have either been drawn out or reduced to better allow for proper tuition.

The beginning is more detailed and coherent than I expected.

Halfway done and I’ve already learned more in this tutorial alone than all other tutorials I’ve done on Youtube and other places combined. Fantastic instructor with great examples and I love that I’m actually working towards making a playable and fun game. Adds the motivation I need. Can’t recommend this course enough!!

moving at a good speed, not lingering too much on how to use the software and showing helpful tips along the way

Great course! I love Aaron’s enthusiasm it keeps you pumped up throughout the course. I’ve seen negative comments on some of his other courses, concerning the speed at which he goes through the material. Personally I love this. It’s a video course, every instruction and information is available to digest at your own leisure so you can click back to any part you want. That said I think Aaron explains every step very well and especially when it comes to visualizing the intent of any particular part. So far this has been my favorite game making course to date. I can’t wait for the next one!

Although I have no interest in making Tower Defense games, I really liked Aaron’s previous courses. It took me a while to get through this course because I ended up binging on certain chapters to apply the material in my other projects. Awesome things you will learn in this course: The particle system in game maker. My favorite part of the course. I’ve made hundreds of particles experimenting with it. Super cool stuff. Thanks Aaron! Learning about the path system in game maker. I don’t really use it much, but at least now I know HOW to use it. Indexing information in 2D arrays. Very helpful for organizing data. Snazzy room transitions. Saving and loading with macros. This turned out to be really helpful in my other projects as well. I used enums often, but now understand how and when to use macros for organizing data. Overall, I am significantly better at coding and using game maker from taking this course. Highly recommended!!
