My name is MINERVA SINGH and i am an Oxford University MPhil (Geography and Environment) graduate. I finished a PhD at Cambridge University (Tropical Ecology and Conservation). I have several years of experience in analyzing real life spatial data from different sources and producing publications for international peer reviewed journals.
In this course, actual spatial data from Peninsular Malaysia will be used to give a practical hands–on experience of working with real life spatial data for mapping habitat suitability in conjunction with classical SDM models like MaxEnt and machine learning alternatives such as Random Forests. The underlying motivation for the course is to ensure you can put spatial data and machine learning analysis into practice today. The functions utilized throughout this course are terribly outdated, some have been depreciated and are no longer available. Professor Singh is either unwilling or unable to offer any useful feedback within the Q&A section. All responses essentially amount to, I didn’t have that error, re run your code or There must be a glitch in your version of R. Many of the resource files required to follow along with lectures are named one thing in the lecture video and another within the downloadable resource file, making it extremely difficult to follow along. Many of these issues would be forgiven if the professor showed any inclination to fix them. Throughout the Q&A section many other students have posted corrections (some as old as 2 years) however Professor Singh has made no changes or even comments on lectures highlighting these resolutions. I have spent a significant amount of time simply troubleshooting the code and resources within the course content. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect is that at its core the information delivered throughout this course is valuable, however it is an extremely arduous process to follow along.

Excellent. Some datasets in some lessons were not in the downloads, but I was able to find other datasets. Also, some R functions are no longer in the downloaded packages, also requiring some effort to find alternatives. Hence, the course material needs checking. But I still rate the course very highly as I am used to being frustrated from time to time by things not working.
