New! Completely updated and re–recorded for Spark 3, IntelliJ, Structured Streaming, and a stronger focus on the DataSet API.
Big data analysis is a hot and highly valuable skill and this course will teach you the hottest technology in big data: Apache Spark. Employers including Amazon, EBay, NASA JPL, and Yahoo all use Spark to quickly extract meaning from massive data sets across a fault–tolerant Hadoop cluster. You’ll learn those same techniques, using your own Windows system right at home. It’s easier than you might think, and you’ll be learning from an ex–engineer and senior manager from Amazon and IMDb.
Spark works best when using the Scala programming language, and this course includes a crash–course in Scala to get you up to speed quickly. For those more familiar with Python however, a Python version of this class is also available: Taming Big Data with Apache Spark and Python – Hands On .
Learn and master the art of framing data analysis problems as Spark problems through over 20 hands–on examples, and then scale them up to run on cloud computing services in this course.
Learn the concepts of Spark’s Resilient Distributed Datasets, DataFrames, and Datasets.

A very good explanation of how the setup needs to be done. I hope that as new versions come up the course content is also upgraded.

I have a mac and was hard to add the jars in eclipse…even many people have been asking this question and many mentioned will be a good idea making a guide for mac in this step but what bothers me is there’s no guide and some comments are 1 year ago

As a newbie to Spark, this course gave me immense knowledge.A great starting point for anyone who wishes to dive into the world of Spark. Examples are great. By trying out the exercises the instructor suggested helped me to understand more.

Awesome explanation!

The course reselmbles aroud a topic I have in an uni course and in another practical course. This is the first course, where I feel this is not a simple cash grab, but the lecturer knows what he is talking about and is confident in explaining what he knows.

Explanation was very good and pace was excellent. Video quality was poor and it gets blurred every now and then loosing focus on contents.

Curious to know if most data scientists are now using Databricks instead of the eclipse.

This course was a great introduction to both Scala and Spark, and has left me wanting more. The example code and explanations were great, and I have learned a lot. I haven’t given 5 stars because, it does feel that there could have been more hands on; Instead of simply running what has been provided, I feel there could have been more of a challenge in terms of writing new code, with a follow up to see how you did. Maybe also quizzes to test knowledge retention. Also, as others have said, it would be good to ensure the course is fully up to date. There are some areas that perhaps don’t fully represent the latest version. These points aside the course is still great, and I would fully recommend it as an introduction to Scala and Spark.

Best course for Spark/Scala I have ever took. I tried with many other courses and but this is the best. Finally I learnt Spark/Scala coding.

If you are already familiar with Frank’s teaching manner you know how it is going. If not you will like it! As for course, yes, it is hands on, and the sections are covered with interesting solutions. If are were you, I’d go to check it. Thank you, Frank.

Hocan n bilgisi geni fakat retme y ntemi biraz farkl . Kodlar n m ze haz r d rmektense hepsini tek tek beraber yazsayd k daha iyi bir renme s reci olabilirdi.
Anand Venkatraman –
Could have focused more on Spark 2 stuff initially, given that RDD is becoming more of legacy.
Xiao Yuan –
The mac version spark installation does not work for me.

Better instructions about installing on Linux would be better. How about providing a Virtual Machine with everything all set for this course?
