[March 2019 Update]: Added two sections on Drift and Nested Stacks
–
AWS CloudFormation is the best way to write, deploy and maintain your AWS Infrastructure. It helps you create efficient solution architectures, all self contained in one file. It supports most of the AWS Services, and is the safest way to make your AWS Infrastructure evolve over time.
Thanks to YAML, writing AWS CloudFormation Templates has become extremely easy and natural. AWS CloudFormation is powerful and supports Parameters, Mappings, Resources, References, Cross–Stack References, Conditions, Outputs, Metadata, and so much more!
In this course AWS CloudFormation Master Class, I will teach you about all the CloudFormation features. In just a few hours, you will know everything about CloudFormation and seamlessly deploy your infrastructure in no–time.
Take a look at these student reviews…
An excellent course on AWS CloudFormation. It covers everything, but this is definitely not for AWS Beginners. You need to know the fundamentals of AWS if you want to really get something out of it. It is very worth while for AWS System Architects, AWS Developers and SysOps/DevOps professionals. I hold two AWS associate certifications and enjoyed of this course. Gerry H.
I really enjoyed the course. I spent a day or two going through the overwhelming sea of official documentation before landing on this video. Like the instructor says in the introduction, you need to have knowledge of most of the popular AWS services like EC2, security groups, key–pair, floating ips, volumes, AWS Billing, etc. before watching this as he doesn’t waste any time explaining about those services. A slight knowledge of JSON or YAML is really helpful. Purmode R.

Good pace, covers all the CFT subjects well, and clearly presented.
Murat Aksoy –
Great course. It was not too long but to the point.
Philipp Hofmann –
i’m familiar with the first 4 points already; none of the examples worked out of the box (the amis are no longer available, there was no default subnet on my account, you need to reference a security groups by id and not by name…) somebody should go and test / update this stuff.
Rtirmazi –

Stephane Maarek did a great job of going through virtually every CloudFormation feature. I’d love even a deeper dive in a future course, perhaps consisting of several step by step walkthroughs of complex templates. Looking forward to watching his other courses!

It is good course for new learners. Last section can be better organized. In summary, it said about cloud formation changeset, but couldn’t see where it was covered.

The teaching content on CloudFormation is pretty spot on. It certainly highlights the core concepts of writing CloudFormation that beginners like myself can really appreciate their fundamentals more before I can start delving deeper into them when working with AWS environments for my company SAAS needs. The only feedback I can leave here is that there were a few instances throughout the course seemed to be in a rushed pace; thus I got lost or confused when listening. For example, you mentioned how custom resources are good to consider when working with AWS lambdas but decided not to provide any hands on tutorial specifically for this. While you were explaining this material, IMHO, I had the strange feeling that you had the urge to get over with the material as swiftly as possible as if this content is not interesting to talk about. More like, wanting to brush this content aside, so you can lead the audience to something more fun stuff in later sections. From that point, as a listener, I got confused whether I should pay attention to this material or not and finding hard how relevant should they help to facilitate my understanding on how CloudFormation works together other AWS products such as Serverless/Lambas moving forth. Hence, it would be good if you could slow down the pace, make the content brief and succinct, and draw some salient points on the topic that the audience may appreciate better even if it could be boring. At least, the audience would feel at ease in listening to you smoothly and stay grounded with the material, section after section. That’s my two cent. Otherwise, keep up the fantastic work and great content! ??

Excellent! I’m not sure that I would call this course a Master Class but, having wrestled a bit with CloudFormation templates in the past, I now know orders of magnitude more than when I started and feel excited and empowered to leverage CF a lot more! Thanks, Stephane!
Ashish Kumar Singh –
Excellent course!

Very amazing course. Clear and understandable

I enjoyed the course and it fitted my timeframes job wise. I’m starting with a project in AWS and I had to understand a complete CFT and this course assisted me in understanding the structure and how to read it. I still need to practice, hopefully I will have the basic to continue with my own CFT

This is a awesome review of cloudFormation
Gabriel dos Santos Claudino –
Great course about CloudFormation.
Prem Radhakrishnan –
Here are the reasons for me to give this a 2 star review. 1. When I saw Masterclass I expected this to be a bit more advanced, at the end of the course it says You can consider yourself a CloudFormation expert . I certainly am not feeling like I am, I watched a video from a recent Cloudformation session at an AWS event and I find that many new important concepts in today’s cloudformation such as nested stacks, retrieving parameters from Systems Manager, etc have received no coverage or very little coverage 2. The course material is outdated and does not match the current AWS console or concepts. For example, the course teaches you that dynamic number of resources are not possible. That is no longer true, it is now possible. 3. This is not necessarily a big negative but many of the examples and tutorials are from the documentation itself and not original to this course and the examples in github are outdated as such.

Great class, I have learned so much.
David Elgar –
A good course which covered everything that I would expect to use with CloudFormation going forward.
Rufus Simmons –
I’ve used two of the instructor’s courses as central pieces to of obtaining the AWS Solutions Architect Associate + Big Data Exams, and they were very good and was engaging. However, there are many times in this course where he seemed to rush through concepts, and it was not as engaging.
Robert Burrell Donkin –
Thanks for a great little course. Really helped me to get to grips with advanced templates.

I really liked this course. I was looking for a simple and practical introduction to CloudFormation and Stephane provided me with exactly the information I was looking for. Recommended for those that already have a minimal background in AWS but need to go beyond the management console.
