To really understand what is special about Bitcoin, we need to understand how it works at a technical level. We’ll address the important questions about Bitcoin, such as: How does Bitcoin work? What makes Bitcoin different? How secure are your Bitcoins? How anonymous are Bitcoin users? What determines the price of Bitcoins? Can cryptocurrencies be regulated? What might the future hold? After this course, you’ll know everything you need to be able to separate fact from fiction when reading claims about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. You’ll have the conceptual foundations you need to engineer secure software that interacts with the Bitcoin network. And you’ll be able to integrate ideas from Bitcoin in your own projects. Course Lecturers: Arvind Narayanan, Princeton University All the features of this course are available for free. It does not offer a certificate upon completion.

The course covered a lot of things, but the programming assessments are very poor. In first the assessments the bonus task is basically not about blockchain, but rather about graphs. I would recommend adding to course more small coding assignments to get familiar with blockchain and bitcoin platform in a more practical way.

i think this course is quite clearly

Very high quality course. I enjoyed doing the exercises too.

Overall it is a very detailed course. A bit though sometimes to follow. At least I needed to view more than once many parts of quite some videos. Apart from that, it gave me quite some good knowledge about Bitcoin and Blockchain

Absolutely amazing. I think any academic who wants to start writing about blockchain and comes from a discipline different than computer science or mathematics should watch this as a prerequisite. Thank you for putting this wonderful and free resource together!

Curso muito bom,a unica critica e a questao das legendas, poderiam ter mais opcoes como em espanhol por exemplo.

It’s literally a miracle that Coursera allows me to study from perhaps the best professors on blockchain in the world. For FREE. It’s not a joke how big of an opportunity this is. And although I’m not into college yet, and even though I don’t even plan to opt for a STEM major, I do have a basic knowledge of programming and I’m going to try my best to make the most of this god send gift. Thank you sooooooo much. I love you guys 🙂

The videos are very clear and easy to understand. The quality of the material is very good. Personally, I like in depth materials and I believe this course has the right level for what I’ve looking for regarding bitcoin knowledge. Congrats!

Finally I completed this course, it takes more effort than I thought. Through this course, I get familiar with the basic and advance concepts of the bitcoin, blockchain and somehow the whole cryptocurrency, I learned a lots form it. Beginning at the second half of 2018, I became a programmer in blockchain field, hope the blockchain tech grow more rapidly and play a more important role in the future.

Enjoying it. Good lectures and books. Lectures are based on 2015 2015 data on bitcoin and crypto currencies space. This technology is changing rapidly. Would like see the course materials/lectures updated with latest data.Thank you!

Needlessly difficult programming assignments, because no tests or main functions were provided. We were left to guess what was expected in a painful, slow, feedback loop of submitting to the grader, waiting several minutes for it to complete, and looking at errors to guess what might have happened. If we could compile and run locally, or (GASP!) were even provided with the tests and expected outputs (e.g., like with the Stanford Machine Learning course), the pain of the programming would have been removed, allowing us to focus on learning the material, instead of blindly guessing what was being tested and/or passed in to functions.

Great content but if you don’t know how to code it’s very difficult given direction given on the assignments. Need to have some computer science background.

Good lectures. Well designed assignments.

Very helpful course to get familiar with the fundamentals of cryptocurrency. They used a lot of specific examples to explain the concepts, which was very helpful.

Great course , very informative and a good general introduction to bitcoin, and blockchain technology Thanks for lecturers highly recommended.
JOHN T –
Good course to learn cryptocurrency basics and know about Bitcoin and blockchain basics.. The programming assignments were challenging and helped with coding skills.
Clement M –
Great introductory class. It is very clear, and teacher was wise to give his opinion only in the last lecture. Even though this class took place in 2015, it already spoke about Ethereum and Ripple which are now widely used and recognized, strengthening trust in the opinion and skills of the teachers. Programming exercices could be redone because a lot of time is passed trying to guess the logic of the code instead of having a practical understanding of blockchain technologies.

Awesome.

Very good!

confusing for beginners, it’s best to start from practice then theory. if only theory is very confusing

The theoretical content of the course is interesting and it gives an excellent overview of the cryptocurrency technologies through the example of bitcoin. The course also extend to alt coins and the discuss the possible challenge blockchains can help addressing beyond the purely cryptocurrency field which is interesting. The programming assignment could however be improved. First they required a strong knowledge of java which can exclude some students. But the real issue is the lack of satisfactory explanations and guidance that sometimes make it impossible to fully resolve the practical, or even what is expected from the student. Sometimes you can get the best mark while your code is either incorrect or not adressing the logic fully. Sometimes you run into technical limitations on the platform (memory limitation) which despite a good algorithm doesn’t allow you to submit your answer. It then forces you to spend time on improving the quality of your code to save the memory used by your program (thus requiring strong java knowledge) which is time consuming and not the purpose of this course. Overall I would advise to do the course. I would however strongly encourage Coursera/Princeton to review the assignments so that they can best help students in the understanding of the complex notions discussed in this course.

Excellent course by the Princeton University! I have been studying blockchain in order to better understanding its potential paradigm shifts and was somewhat discouraged at first by the course’s focus on specifically Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies, but am happy to say that it fulfilled my expectations on explaining decentralized ledgers of trust (i.e. blockchain itself) in broader terms, along with alternate use cases and implications for the future. Very complete conceptually and technically. The assignments delve into Java code and greatly add to technically understand the intricacies of the subject, but aren’t really necessary for grasping a conceptual understanding of the matter (for programmers or those who can manage their way into code, though, they’re definitely worth going through!). Congratulations to Coursera and the Princeton University for making available a course as good as this for free!

Informational, with hands on experience. Educates pretty well on the technical details. Also addresses some FAQs if cryptocurrency is new to you.

I have attended 3 video sessions in total of 25 minutes. I feel that the course was quite technical from the very beginning. I believe the target audience for such a course maybe people with computer science or EE backgrounds. Despite me being an engineer I could not understand much as the language used was quite technical with too many advanced formulas and terminologies. Thank you very much though for the opportunity to have an initial overview. As the topic is of high interest, I will search for a course on same topic more “business oriented”.

A Great Experience. I learn a lot of new things and clear my basic concepts related to bitcoin. Thank You !
Stela L –
All the basic cryptocurrency topics are pretty well covered, I just wish some more depth about lightning network and maybe smart contracts, etc would be mentioned and maybe some more interesting assignments would be more helpful. Maybe a sequel of this course would add up more.

I feel this course to be very interesting. However, the programming tasks can be a little bit difficult to understand, thanks to the debate forums that was much easier. Thanks

Amazing course, easy to understand and apply in the real world

I mine ETH for a very small profit, but this course opened my eyes to many of the awesome inner workings of cryptocurrencies. The professors are very well spoken and the content is intuitively structured!

It states that you do not have to be a programmer to do this course, but the first week exam is to code. I have no clue what it is stating so i must unenroll from this course. I thought i would learn about cryptocurrencies and how the technology will impact future business.
