The Best Way to Learn Important Game Design Patterns Step–by–Step
UPDATED January 1st, 2019
I have just uploaded a new build that is saved in Unity 2018.2.1.f1. This may make it easier for some people who are loading the game into newer version of Unity. You can find it under the Resources in the First Lecture!
Also, I have prepared another lecture that focuses on re–factoring some of our design to better decouple our UI objects. It will be edited and uploaded in the next few days.
In this course you will learn how to create an Idle Business Tycoon Game from the ground up that is similar to games such as ADventure Captialist, Web Tycoon, and Cookie Clicker. But more importantly, this course is designed to teach critical game development concepts and design patterns popularized by the Gang of Four.
You can play AdVenture Capitalist on Kongregate to get an idea of the core game play you will learn to create in this course.

the last part didn’t give much info about the way it was scripted, more about this custom inspector. i didnt mind it but it wasnt really relevant. for the rest it was a good course where you learned to code as a beginner. it got worse after the XML in my opinion so 4 stars!

Enjoyable and informative, although the last module was a bit of a let down. I’d have preferred to go more in depth into how and why everything was done in the manner of the earlier (excellent) modules rather than the mostly high level overview and here’s one we prepared earlier that we got. Overall, though, I enjoyed the course and feel like a got a lot out of it.

During the first chapter or so, the volume is so low that it is nearly inaudible, even with all system volume set to max. The code consistently violates the style guidelines set by Unity and for C# programming in general by having lowercase classes and TitleCase everything else. The teacher demonstrates during his Introduction to Unity Prefabs that he has failed to master even this very fundamental building block of Unity development. Instead of explaining how prefab overrides work, he explains instead that as you can see, this system can be a little unpredictable. The truth is, of course, that the author simply did not understand them well enough to predict their behavior. There is content here that may be useful to someone looking for an approach to carbon copy as they make their first idle game, but the quality is nowhere near high enough to merit the price, even at 95% off.

very easy to understand, but the voice is to small

Yeah it’s alright, the video is HD but you can’t really see anything when viewing in Expanded mode. I need to transfer screens quickly as i do not have a second monitor so i can’t be using Fullscreen mode.

This is the most comprehensive course this developer offers. I appreciate the attention to detail but some back and forth changes become problematic later on. It is lacking a goal for the player to try to achieve or an end game. You want to create some kind of sense of accomplishment if the player gets a certain amount of money or companies etc. At least a message. I consider this course much more useful comparing to the new wave of short 2 3 hours courses that seems to plague Udemy recently.

Thank you very much for this course. I found it to be very informative and very well explained. This course provides not just a basis for a fully functional financial simulation, but also provides the student with the ability and encouragement to go on to make their own version of these systems. Thanks again, please keep making more courses.

There is too much Trial Mistake parts if I move the line there it may start work… . For newbies it must be frustrating to concern to something which is wrong in two minutes. But in general it is a good tutorial.

As a beginner, this course has been great. Especially helpful to see the alternative methods and learn how to clean up simple newbie code and turn it into something a little more streamlined.

Thank you very much for the amazing teaching skills and great course!

Moves a bit fast, but it is right on topic. Not a lot of Unity depth but appears geared towards users who have at least a fundamental understanding of Unity. This is an early review and it would be nice to know what we’re working towards, but otherwise it’s what I had hoped for so far.

Easy to follow. Very informative
Chris Hagan –
He is good as he takes it in small steps

Enjoying the course. What I really like is that we’re learning good disciplines for writing robust code, and we’re learning different patterns. That’s exactly what I was looking for, and fits where I’m at in my intermediate learning. Perfect course for any beginner ready to take it to the next level. I’m also learning a lot about Unity, which I’m completely new to

I can keep up with the content.

I get a bug at the course 32, my buying button and image button can not be clicked anymore, the progress bar not run

S aby kurs.

So far, really easy to follow and just plain fun!

That’s an interesting course that addresses the mechanics of many free to play games. It’s very practical and should help any Unity developer with implementing economics/in game currencies into their own projects. I was going for a 4 stars, but eventually gave it 5 stars because the course allows you to download the full projects from the get go. Huge bonus point for that! Also, I don’t know where you’re from in the US, but your accent is legend.

Fast pace and challenging, but in digestible bites.
