gRPC is a new and modern framework for building scalable, modern and fast API. It is leveraged by many top tech companies such as Google, Square & Netflix and enables programmers to write micro–services in any language they want while keeping the ability to easily create communications between these services. It relies on Protocol Buffers for the transport mechanism and Service Definition language.
In this course, we are going to explore in depth, with hands–on lectures, all the aspects to get started with gRPC.
This course is hands–on and you will implement two services: Greet and a Calculator Service.
In just a few hours, you will know everything you need to know to write your .proto files, generate code in your Favourite Programming, and implement your services, servers and client in Java. There will be plenty of hands–on lectures and exercises for you to practice your newly acquired skills.
It’s time to say goodbye to slow and clunky REST API, and opt–in for a better API framework.

This course was amazing and eye opening. Thank you. I hope that you have done or will do an advanced course, getting into options and interplay with REST and Pub/Sub.

Really great course! It contains all that you needed to start with. Examples are quite representative and the course flow is very good. The whole course is short and at the same is very informative. This is exactly what I’ve expected from the course. Strongly recommend for those who want to understand the main idea of gRPC and to try it by yourself. Course contains examples, assignments for implementing it by yourself as well as showing you how instructor is doing it by himself. Thanks, Staphane! That was really very useful and fun! Suggestion: that would be awesome if the chapter for gRPC gateway will also be included! Hope it will be added later…

I only heard about gRPC in a very high level, but now I do understand the basics. The Hands On really helped to follow up.

This course along with Protocol Buffers teaches a lot of standard stuff but does not cover some essential topics that will help enterprise application developers. This course targets Hello World version of various things but not really a Master as title says. 1. Exposing a gRPC End Point as a URL is not covered. How do we integrate wirh Web UIs without this. At least suggestions and scope should have been made evident. 2. Extensions and Custom Options are not covered. 3. Hence Custom Options in Service and RPC Call when defined, how can they be referenced from server code is not covered.

Great course and straight to the point. It is interesting to see how new gRPC is similar to the old SOAP. Make sure that you are familiar, at least a bit, with the Protocol Buffers.
