Learn Java even if you’ve never written a line of code before.
Let’s face it programming can be hard
But it’s certainly not impossible. In fact, here at LearnToProgram, we found just about anybody can learn to code. With a little bit of effort, time and this course you can be writing programs in the Java programming language.
The problem with many so–called beginner’s courses is that they assume prerequisite knowledge that many don’t have. These courses use too much jargon and are overly complex for beginners. Java for Beginning Beginners is different.
Especially designed for the total beginner even someone who’s never written a line of code in their life Java for Beginning Beginners doesn’t use complex jargon or assume any prerequisite knowledge. You’ll start by obtaining the free tools you need to create Java programs, and then write very simple programs.
Gradually, Andrew, your instructor will take you through the step–by–step process of adding new commands to your code vocabulary. By the end of this course you’ll be ready to study more advanced Java courses, or just write Java programs on your own, learning more a long the way.
This course can be completed in less time than it takes to read a complex novel. You’ll stay engaged with interesting demonstrations and lectures and retain information by completing the lab exercises through out the course.

I like it that he is using small steps as we go from simple code to complex. Also, it follows along with the book.
Mirko Cukich –
Great introductory Java class for beginners without any coding experience.
Richard Greer –
if your a programmer already this is a good course but it is not taught for non programmers. the instructor flys through everything without explaining why your doing it or what it means.
John London –
The course material is presented clearly and is appropriate for beginning programmers. The instructor responded almost immediately to my question and I was quickly able to move ahead. One caveat the video is made using a Mac, and that may be a bit confusing to some Windows people. The instructor uses Apple’s Nano as an editor and saves code using cmd O. On windows cntl O opens a file; cntl S saves. The java SDK install did not add the bin directory to my System Path Variable. I had to manually add it and that may be uncomfortable for some. These headaches (though minor) are a necessary part of programming, so working through them is not time wasted.

good stuff

It did not tell me how to set up my windows computer editor so I am stuck at the first step

Start here if you know nothing about computers AND own a Mac. I figured this would be a good supplemental study option as I learn Java development, but so far I was mistaken. I’m also a little disappointed in the production quality. Of course, for $10.00 I’m not exactly upset.

The course lets you try things as well as giving you lecture. This helps people who learn by seeing as well as those who learn by doing. Great course so far!

In the beginning, I had difficulty figuring out how to go through the examples in the first chapter on my Windows machine. There have been no Windows based suggestions on what editor to use, how to compile or run with Command Prompt… I found a very small number of posts in the Q&A section, but still not enough for a Beginner, like me, to fully Run my program. Luckily, I’m surrounded by developers at work and asked one of them. Otherwise, the rest of the sessions were interesting and basic enough for a beginner. Some of the later Labs were challenging, but I enjoyed since I had to think about how to go about solving the problem, and use what I learned.

Course has a great order but could use real life requirement for the program examples.

Instructor was able to teach just enough for first Java course. He neither bored me with very little information, nor he overwhelmed me with lot of information. Lab works for all topics were very good. Thanks
Lois Rosenlof –
Yes this is a good match as I am a beginning beginner and it is clearing up some items that I have been confused on in other more advance courses
Natasha ONeal –
I’ll say, it is definitely a good match.
