There is no doubt that having Spring Framework skills on your r sum will make you a more employable Java developer.
Spring developers are in high demand and are paid handsomely. However, the framework is huge. That s because it consists of lots of modules and projects. Learning it can take you months. You will often find that a Java Spring tutorial or training course will focus on parts of the framework that don t get used that much.
What Spring technologies should you focus on initially?
Many Java spring courses teach you all sorts of things you really don t need to know when you are starting out.
If you are just starting out with Spring, the areas that will have the biggest impact for you are Spring Core, Spring MVC and Spring Boot 2.
Spring Core is an application framework and inversion of control (ioc) container for the java platform.
Spring MVC, or Spring Web MVC to be more precise is a web framework and provides Model View Controller architecture. It s built around a DispatcherServlet.
Spring Boot 2.0 is a way to create standalone Spring based Applications that you can just run so it simplifies the entire process of creating and deploying Spring apps It can embed databases and do all sorts of configuration automatically.
These three areas are a great place to start just having these skills will take you a long way. Of course, there is more to learn, but these are the areas to focus on initially.

I really like Tim’s teaching style. The sections go in depth into important Java and Spring subjects, building on previous sections. He shows a progression of methods for coding concepts in order to teach how Java and Spring have evolved. I would have given 5 stars, but the NEW section still has missing parts (I may update later). However, the old section covers older versions and is still mostly relevant.

great details on every information. most of the time you get it from the first time and that is uncommon on most tutorials

It is safe to assume that most of those who would be picking up the course would be people with a very particular task back end development. The course does not cover working with the databases section as part of the ew content. Also, the course does not cover authentication and other essentials aspects at all. Instead, there is a lot of concentration on 3rd Party frameworks and Libraries that are not essential for building a back end. I am keeping the course as a reference for such things as Gradle and Maven, Lombok and others, but not as a Spring (Boot) course.

Tim is always great!

Overall a good course but it would be great to have some more explainations while using the code.

His teaching style is good, but his choice of content is too specific to his preferences. Being a seasoned Java developer leaping into the Spring world (did a lot of work where the architects were framework averse), he leans to heavily on newer, optional tech like lombok. I work in the real world and was hoping to learn spring and mvc better without the hand waving of syntactic sugaring frameworks like lombok. We are not using it where I work, for example. Pushing something like lombok is not appropriate in the context of learning Spring I believe it hides much of what should be being taught. I am, actually, opposed to frameworks like lombok when learning about general language based technologies. Why would I want to hide half of what we do with lazy laden technologies like lombok. Perhaps bolting on the lombok section at the end? I would rather see the verbose version of how to do something and THEN learn to refactor with modern developer helper technologies like lombok.

Course should have more diagrams, to explain things in an easy way.

fantastic course

Tim is simply exceptional. He has tonnes of experiences that he shares with newbies at a very palatable rate. I like that he makes no assumptions, I am lucky to have found his Aussie man.

Not only is this course great for learning what’s on the label, but it teaches you a bunch of additional, really useful stuff in the process.

Thank you so much, you are really good at explaining things very clearly, in other words, you are very good teacher. Thank you so much.
Bohyun Kim –
good lecture!

Good course, however many crucial &interesting things were mentioned as will be covered later in the course and actually they are not

4 to encourage Tim to releasing lacking content about Hibernate 😉
Omran Losinno –
This is a comprehensive course on Spring Framework. I love it!

Most of the students signup for this course after completing Tim’s Java course which is truly a masterclass. However, Tim has designed this course without keeping his students from the Java course in mind. It seems like some prior knowledge of Spring is assumed as no proper introduction of Spring framework is provided. But again most of the materials in this course is basic stuff. Simple concepts are made very difficult in this course and someone who is trying to learn Spring from scratch , I was quite confused because of lack of proper introduction.

So far (some videos) I really like the detailed explanation of everything. By writing the code they show you word by word and why you use this code, and by installing software step by step and why you choose and configure something. Other videos just skip writing code and show an already completed code, it is much more difficult to learn. For me it is very important to see it in detail with explanation and this video has it all 😉
