Java Swing (GUI) Programming: From Beginner to Expert
$34.99 $15.99Track price
This course teaches you how to create desktop and web–based applications using Java Swing, Java’s built–in user interface toolkit. Each tutorial is fairly self–contained; but we’ll also build two complete applications step by step along the way, so you can choose either to work through the whole course or to dip in and out.
Among other things we’ll look at nearly all Swing widgets, we’ll take a look at JDBC for database access, the graphics API, model–view–controller (MVC) architecture, serialization for saving data, the listener–event model and even basic animation.
When you finish the course, you’ll be an advanced Swing developer, capable of creating complex and scalable Swing GUI applications.

The instructor calmly and confidently codes through various Java Swing classes and calls to implement a Model View Controller example. At each step he takes time to explain how the pieces work, how they fit together, and why the added components are useful. He admits that the concept is complex at first, but reassures the student that practicing the application of elements as he shows them will make the approach more logical and open opportunities for more obvious Swing applications later. Following along, coding the application in my own Eclipse environment, and seeing the functionality evolve with each lesson, I am starting to develop confidence that he is correct and this will all make more sense with practice.

so far so good

The course itself is awesome. I bought this course because my professor expected us to do a project on MVC without teaching on it at all. The trainer goes through creating a GUI step by step and explains things very well. I took off a star only because the original teacher has hired a teaching assistant to answer any questions that come in, and the assistant’s responses are usually something like, Have you looked on Stackoverflow for an answer? I’m not someone who asks a ton of questions, but I may have one over the course of the class, and it would be nice to get a polite, well thought out answer.
