There are many C++ tutorials for Unreal Engine or other game engines out there, but most just assume you have a solid background in C++, or they cover the basics quickly. This is because Unreal Engine C++ is already too complicated to cover learning an entire programming language plus Unreal Engine programming in a single course. This course is designed to teach you C++ from the ground up, starting at absolute beginner level content and working up to advanced level techniques. This course will prepare you for programming video games in Unreal Engine, Cryengine, Lumberyard, or any game engine. Unreal Engine is not used in this course. This is a course on the basics of C++.

I have a java background and i took this course to start learning c++ and game development. My experience from this course was very positive and i would like to leave some constructive criticism.I will start with the negatives. The subtitles were not good and it was damaging the experience of a good course . The volume of the hands on examples was significantly lower that the ones with the whiteboard and i had trouble listening through headphone. Also to anyone interested in this course he should now that is basically a crush course in C++ (but goes into advanced subjects later on) and meant to prepare you for going into unreal engine, so there is no game development done here. Now to the positive ones. The tutor is excellent , his pronunciation is perfect without any annoying accent or mannerism(which at least for me puts me off from a course), combined with a very good communication skill and good content , makes this course a very enjoyable experience. I m looking forward to start his unreal engine course. And i would like to watch a full blown out course in C++ for more advanced students (even though he covers most things here) or algorithms and data structures if he’s up to it

I took this course as a refresher, after section 4, I have realized that I did not need this. I would not normally leave a review for something that I did not finish. I highly recommend this course for beginners, or for anyone who is have troubles learning C++. Stephen is an excellent and very thorough instructor.
Chiril Russu –
10/10, learned a lot, everything was explained from the ground up, very meticulous. Easy to listen to, easy to understand. Already have the UE4 course and look forward to starting it.
Dustin Ericksen –
I failed to learn programming in college, because it couldn’t be explained at the time in a way that my mind could make sense of. This course so far has done an exceptional job of doing just that, framing it in a way my mind can understand.
Keang Thai –
difficult to follow along.
Joseph Ryan Kukla –
Very informative, very thorough. I wish there were updates that covered the 2019 version changes, however. I got through it and finished it just fine!
Stephen Kaputsos –
Incredible instructor! Clear and concise!
Popa Claudiu –
Well structure course with good pace. The instructor explains his material very well!
Joseph Smith –
This course is perfect so far.

It was nice!
Hamza Ali –
Nice course for beginners, explained in concise and easy language. Especially the OOP section.

A GREAT course if you’re looking to get into C++ catered to UE4. The instructor teaches and explains the concepts in a very concise and intuitive way and after each lecture further develops each topic with some practical examples. The way the course is structured also helps a lot if you need to quickly refresh some specific topic, just put it to 1.5x speed andquickly listen to the lectures you need to review. Although it lacks some exercises, how to use/implement libraries and file reading/writing, I still loved it! This might be the best you’ll find around, designed specifically to get you into UE4! Especially loved the intuitive ways that the instructor explains all the concepts! Now, I’m off to dive into his next course > UE4 C++!

The teacher has a thorough understanding of the c++ language.
Mikko Keskinen –
Instructor is really great at explaining everything so that it makes sense and gets into my thick head, course is amazing and I definitely recommend it.
Thomas Powers –
Excellent course. I used it as a refresher after having not used C++ for about 12 years. Worked nicely.
Vlad –
I have a fairly low level of English, but for the entire course I have not encountered a single problem with understanding. An excellent course before exploring Unreal Engine.
Brad Cantrell –
Stephen is great, probably the best game programming teacher on Udemy.
Thomas Ellburg Stokkan –
So far so good. I appreciate the explanations for what everything means and does.
Chris Foskett –
Learned a lot but will need supplementary practice to become proficient with concepts such as casting and virtual functions

This course is amazing for beginners. He does an amazing job describing every concept and gives examples of how they would be implemented in a game. As the preview suggests, this is really taught from a game development point of view but will also teach you C++ in general if you are just interested in any sort of console application. My only gripe is that I bought this course expecting to learn game development exclusive things. I already knew C++ decently well and I was working on learning unreal engine. I was hoping to learn concepts that a normal C++ tutorial would teach you; however this is not the case. I’m not taking off any stars because this is more of my own misconception, but the marketing can be a little misleading.
Nadav Biran –
Great course 🙂
Philip Carle –
The flow was good and the order of topics was good. Some topics longer than necessary but overall I learnt which was the goal…
Clay Hammons –
Coming from C# this was really easy to follow. The instructor explains concepts in a clear and easy to understand way.
Jymel Ryan –
I’ll update as I go along but this course is very in depth and detailed, I’ve been on and off with trying to learn C++ so most of this is familiar to me, the teachers explanation on things are very well thought out and detailed and easy to understand. my only complaint is using namespace std in the tutorial which I personally see as a no no as it was something beaten into me from a previous course for beginners that I picked up but that’s just my opinion otherwise this course is shaping up to be well worth it.
Ryan Johnston –
It was a perfect match I was looking for a way to help teach me to make games and this is the perfect class for it
Andrew Wilkinson –
One of the best intros to C++ that I have seen. Very well explained and demonstrated.
Dustin Clark –
I really enjoyed the course. The only critique I would have would be to stand to the side of the white board rather than in front of it. Dustin
Treimane Eason –
This course is a very digestible way of teaching c++ that is only held back from the sound cutting out every now and then.
Kolton Rasmussen –
Still much to learn. I’ll revise my review of the course later.
Dominic Challis –
I am a very inexperienced coder and it has always been a dream for me to create my own game and become a game developer. This is a good and easy to follow series to start learning
Chan Yan Shao –
very clear explanations on the topic
MarcusWang –
As a complete beginner of the C++ coding, this course really explain a bunch of basic concept in a way that’s understandable. It is awesome that all the tutorials comes with two parts, the idea explanation and the practice. It really helps to get deeper understanding in terms of the C++ learning.
Andrii Obitotskyi –
Really enjoyed the course. Very good explanation, to my mind, and I hope it would be useful for me during the work with Unreal Engine.
Dzmitry Bryzinski –
The course is perfectly matched its description. Good explanations, clear examples.
Jeremy Chandra –
This course teaches you a strong foundation of the CPP Language.
Lance Brown –
Very, very, great tutorial that this person just posted up on the internet.
Christian Nichols –
Your program is outdated
Paul Chadeisson –

Eric Harrington –
Comprehensive review of C++
Vaibhav S. Sali –
Really Hats Off to Stephen as an instructor! I find him very professional and passionate. Nothing fancy and exaggerated like other tutors. No fancy setup or anything. Yet so simple and up to the point! Also the way Stephen communicates and speaks makes me forget everything and focus on every topic. Ultimately in a real sense, he is a C++ Guru! Unquestionably I have an immense respect for you Stephen! Please keep it up!
Codrin Stamate –
This course is a keeper. Wow! Everything is explained in a fluent and easily understandable manner, with lots of interesting exercises. I would buy a game development book written like this course. Thank you!
Yimin Shih –
Yes!! Everything was explained really well. Thank you!
Milo Winn –
Clear, easy to understand, and well structured. Goes over the concept, and then gives examples and practice applying it. The closest thing I have to a complaint is that times he is too thorough in his explanations.
Tom –
The content is good and the concepts are well explained. It is clear that the teacher is well versed in what he’s teaching. However, most of the white board videos are actually redundant. The same concepts are explained twice and in most cases in the exact same way. I don’t see any reasons to include those videos except bumping the course’s hour duration, which makes it in reality half what is announced. I felt kind of click baited because of that.
Brian Preston –
Very good and well presented course from a very knowledgeable instructor.
Robert Bolinger –
This was what I was looking for and I can’t wait to take the next one!
Konrad Bryla –
Every topic was explained in such a way that it was not difficult to follow. It felt stress free and I already see improvement in the programming I do for class in college.
Treston Brown –
Love the clear and concise explanations. So much clarity. Im only halfway through at the moment, but I have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and just started with Unreal recently. The concepts here are explained so clearly that despite having years of experience with various languages including C++, I learned things even in the basics that I never knew or failed to understand. Excited to take your shooter course after this!
John –
How this course is set up is awesome. Really love the combination of explaining concepts and practical teaching. Best way to set up a course on this topic in my opinion!
John Smith –
Very thorough and well explained.
Kal Al Rajhi –
Great explanations and initial practice, but there are no exercises for you to try on your own. That’s up to you to come up with an try.
