Unreal Engine is among the most comprehensive and advanced game engines in the market. It s a complete suite of game development tools for game developers. Along with the C++ programming language, UE4 will enable you to implement efficient games with unparalleled performance. If you’re interested to build complex stunning games with amazing graphics powered by Unreal Engine 4.x, then go for this Learning Path.
Packt s Video Learning Paths are a series of individual video products put together in a logical and stepwise manner such that each video builds on the skills learned in the video before it.
The highlights of this Learning Path are:
Packed with exciting and practical recipes, this Learning Path is a guide showcasing techniques to use the power of C++ while developing games with UE4. In this Learning Path, you will learn basic Unreal Engine 4 C++ programming. You will be exposed to the architecture of Unreal Engine 4 classes, memory management, and basic coding utilizing the C++ programming language.
Further, you will learn how to add and edit C++ classes from within the Unreal Editor. You will then delve into one of Unreal’s primary strengths, the ability for designers to customize programmer–developed actors and components. The Learning Path will help you understand the benefits of when and how to use C++ as the scripting tool. With a blend of task–oriented recipes, this Learning Path will provide actionable information about scripting games with UE4, and manipulating the game and the development environment using C++.

This course is very good, so I think it deserves a good rating. I wish it went in depth with the painting and landscapes and things like that.

First of all, I want to say that there is a lack of courses for UE4 C++ programmers, I mean for more or less experienced programmers, who do not want to heard about what is the variables and functions and how to use it, or let’s learn cpp via UE4 game creation ;o) Moreover, it is truly hard to find course where instructor do not used Blueprints instead of C++ in the less than 70% of gameplay code in his trying to explain everything as soon as possible. UE4 is a huge, full of legacy of complex architecture and macroses monster. Documentation of the engine is a roulette: somewhere is exhaustively description with examples, but on the other hand nothing but a class name. For me tutorials are boring, cook books do not give a general understanding. Due to that this kind of courses, include this particular course, is very helpful for programmers who want to enter in UE4 world. Advantages of this course: 1. Great structured!!! It is obvious that structure has been created before the start of the course, simple but unfortunately rear nowadays. You will not see how teacher recalls something during the lesson as in a stream) 2. As fast as it needed to understand, sometimes with additional exploring outside the course. But sufficient to cover all main features and best practices. 3. Covers UE memory management!!! 4. Explain how to navigate in the engine source code and documentation!!! 5. Explains the distinctive between BP and C++ using in your project. For what purposes each tool should be used. 6. DRY and sufficient! Without any unnecessary information. Disappointments: 1. Out of feedback from teachers and classmates. It feels like teachers abandoned this project. Q&A is dead! 2. Last 2 videos in last section (animation & physics) is obviously not up to work and made through sleeves. Need to full self exploring of that questions. 3. Last section is more an overview (but still helpful) +/ Eventually, I do not want to get a middle score to this course, because fairly the course deserves a good grade, despite some flaws. With a little refinement, it would be great!
