Hello there! Welcome to my course.
f About me f
I’m Gurpreet Singh, a 2D indie game developer and instructor. I have years of experience in making games in GameMaker Studio 2 and I want to teach you all of that through this course.
f About the course f
This course is all about creating a 2D action–adventure game with GameMaker Studio 2, from the ground up.
You’ll learn a lot of advanced coding using GameMaker Language. Here are a few examples of what we’ll go through:
– Data structures
– Auto–tiling and tile collisions
– Finite state machines
– NPC movement and textboxes
– Making houses and going inside them
– Saving your game and loading it
– A day–night cycle using blend modes
– And much more!
To check out what the game is like, make sure to watch the video above.
f More about the course f
This course is beginner–friendly, however it also contains advanced concepts. It is beginner–friendly in the sense that I explain everything I do so that no one feels lost. The advanced concepts allow you to do more in GameMaker. So, you can take this course regardless of your skill level!
The style by which I teach is to–the–point without any filler or unnecessary talking. I get things done quickly while explaining stuff comprehensively.

So far, I love the fast pace of this course. I prefer being able to pause the video when I need more time rather than waiting for the instructor to type out long lines of code. I also love how there is a summary at the start of each section about what is going to be covered. The code seems rock solid, and the instructor has spent considerable time in making sure everything is logical and well organised. I regret not finding this course earlier.
Matthew Jedidiah Hodge –
very clear. if you want to learn a single method that gets the job done, this is it.
Jonathan Marlon Ferreira –
I feel like i should have more o do in the process

I’m only taking this course to brush up on my skills as a developer. I’m already fluent enough in GML, but I need refinement of things I’m not good with yet, like enemy AI
Taha Cnbk –
this course really good.

Exactly what I was looking for. I’m an artist who wants to make a game, but doesn’t want to rely on programmers to come through. Especially since I really want to make my own passion projects. This course is great for getting started in GameMaker 2.

Very easy to follow, and intuitive.

I love that what is going to happen is explained up front. Then I think the code is very well organized. Only change would be to have as much Variables in the Variable Definitions instead of create. Also he talks extremely fast so often the videos are paused so I can write code and process.

The instructor talks way to fast to understand all of the concepts and doesn’t explain much of what he is doing or why he is doing it.

Really great little course here. The action RPG elements are very basic, but there is so much great content for features that can be used in any genre. I took this course almost a year ago and still come back to it often for reference. Highly recommended. The instructors website and youtube channel are also filled with valuable juicy tidbits. Check ’em out!!

So glad the scripts are complete and well put together comprehensive for beginners videos. So grateful!

From what I have seen in the course so far, the course content has been extremely useful and it was delivered in an efficient manner. Navigating the different lectures is very convenient. Each lecture I have watched has contained relevant and well laid out information. Matharoo uses time in each lecture to explain things thoroughly, and doesn’t waste time rambling. This course has been an instrumental investment! Thank you, Matharoo!

Great course, well explained. My suggestion is to add a section teaching how to optimize the code since it has a lot of repetition (like in the menus). Also, I think a few global variables can be set as macros. Thanks, Gurpreet.
Paul Murray –
This was a very informative course learned some great tools. The instructor went a little fast at times, so i had to pause it a lot, but overall, he did a great job explaining everything.

This course has exactly what I needed and wanted to learn for coding an Action/Adventure game. Gurpreet is very much to the point, with very thorough and clear teaching of GML. Would definitely recommend taking one of Gurpreet’s courses! 🙂

this is a very good course for people that have some programming experience. My only concern is that everything is explained too fast (I have to pause it to be able to follow) and the code shows the good experience of the instructor but it could be optimized in a reusable way, so it wouldn t be repeated in many parts or in huge blocks of code. but overall, I highly recommend it, is a very valuable resource to start making similar games and also a good resource to come back to in case you forget how to do something of the basics.

Great tutorial, and Mr. Matharoo keeps up to date on changes. He is also quick with answers to questions. Recommended for sure.

Very fast paced, probably not great for absolute beginners. If you’ve done a few GMS2 courses you will probably get a lot out of this.
