Have you ever wondered about how REST APIs work? Have you tried to understand all the components that are required to create REST APIs? Are you a developer coming from a Java/PHP/Perl/Python background but now interested in Node.js? Did you want to know how relational databases work? Or how NoSQL works? How are they different – or even similar?
Have you heard about JSON Web Tokens and token based authentication but wasn’t sure how they work? Have you heard the latest buzzword GraphQL but wondered how it works?
Look no further this course answers all your questions! It teaches the very basics of REST APIs including its architecture and HTTP methods, to adding relational database and/or NoSQL support while also covering authentication via tokens as well as GraphQL. As a bonus, Section 10 (Appendix B) has an entire section on how to implement the REST API in an example application – including authentication for users.
The course is broken up into 10 distinctive sections.
SECTION 1 – Introduction to REST
An overview of the true basics of REST – including the architecture, HTTP methods and status codes and it also discusses why you’d want to develop a REST API at the first place.
SECTION 2 – Our first REST API in Node.js

Hal Rivadeneira –
This is an awesome course for anyone looking to expand their development skills and learn the development of Node REST APIs with relational and noSql databases. Tamas’s instructions are clear, to the point and easy to follow. I was able to build a real world web application in 2 days at work while taking this course and present my application to my development team during a code review session. It is now an application scheduled for deployment in our next sprint. The big take away for me was the securing a REST API using token authentication, a topic I considered complex to tackle, but now I am confident in implementing in all my projects. Well done Tamas, look forward to seeing more courses.

The author thought over REST services very carefully, and you can feel it in every minute of this course. I think this course is the best of all the courses about REST services I have ever taken.

I really enjoy the examples that are used in this tutorial. I could see using these examples as practice preparation for live Node.js coding interviews.

The Instructor is very knowledgable and good at code, he is good at teaching. The reason I gave it 4 and a half stars is while he teaches you how to do things the detailed way, he does not teach you the shorter easier ways. Especially when it comes to the Knex and the bcrypt section. I feel if he updated the knex section to be more modern and the simpler ways then this could easily be one of the best Node courses on Udemy.

Explained well regarding basics of Rest API. Cover all details

Monotone of voice, mostly powerpoint slides. I could have read this in a book: this does not take advantage of the media at all. No practical experience at all: this should involve some tinkering: not with actual code, but with cirtual exampes you can drag & drop, to demontrate for instance the difference between GETttin an apple, PUTting an apple, DELETE(ing) an apple, posting it or patching it (i know, the example doesn’t make any sense, but some sort of interaction would be nice.)

I have learn from this about Node API structure, how can we secure our api by using JWT.

Yes pretty good. No BS, just to the point.
