Did you know computer games use mathematics to perform every single task, from rendering to animation and physics to AI? Mathematics is everywhere. A fundamental understanding of mathematics is critical in every occupation and nowhere is it more important than in games development. It underpins all primary operations performed by a game engine. You can’t even move a character across the screen without it. Keen to learn more and build up your knowledge in mathematics to improve your game development skills? Then this course is for you.
In this course you will build your own C# classes to work with the geometrical constructs of 2D and 3D space that will develop your understanding of positioning and moving game objects. In short you will build your own maths library to replicate some of Unity’s Vector2, Vector3, Matrix4x4 and some Mathf methods. Throughout, we will be using the Unity Game Engine to help emphasise the mathematics concepts.
Join Dr Penny de Byl as she introduces game development mathematics using her internationally acclaimed holistic teaching style and expertise from over 25 years of teaching, research and work in games and computer graphics. Through–out the course you will follow along with hands–on workshops designed to teach you the vital mathematical techniques used in programming computer game mechanics and visuals.

So far it’s very well explained still just one lecture completed

Good introduction to mathematics for computer graphics. Explanations are great and there are plenty of exercises to do. Highly recommend to take this course if you want to learn mathematics for computer graphics.

Coming from a background of next to no Trig experience it was a difficult course. At the end I feel I learned quite a lot. I hope I can retain most of it when I need it. If not I have a good resource to look at if I forget something. I really liked the section regarding lines, rays, and line segments as that was something I was having trouble wrapping my head around especially linear intrepolation. Also it was very interesting to see the curtain pulled back on how the different functions of the transform are actually done in math. Very solid course and would strongly recommend. Harder than many courses I have taken and took a few months to complete an hour or so a day, but worth the effort if you want to learn this stuff.

liking it so far 🙂

The concepts are well introduced and there is plenty of chances to try out the new things learned. The part about quaternions is mind boggling and I am sure I will revisit this topic in the future as I am sure that I have not yet fully grasped the concept. I have learned quite enough about them for now. Excellent course!

This is a well constructed training. The step by step process builds on the elements for a successful implementation. Good job!

If there is one you must take course on Udemy, it must be this one. I am not gonna explain in detail how important this course for you if you need to consolidate your math skills. Just do yourself a favor and get yourself enrolled in this course. Thank you Penny for the amazing course. I have seen no other person explain quaternion as good as you.

Its a good review

This is a very well put together course with very good explanations of all the vector stuff that went over my head in high school /uni (or I didnt pay enough attention lol). The course has an enormous amount of content, I am half way through with heaps to go, but Im taking my time and revising as I go. A lot of work has gone into this course and the explanations are very clear with great diagrams and animations to help. The course also has clear code explanations, showing how to implement the required data structures. Theres a whole world of Vector tricks I had no idea existed until now.

It was a good match, I was looking for a course to understand the maths underneath Unity engine and this course is a perfect fit!

This course it’s awesome, the explanations are excellent. For example, thanks for this course, i finally could understand bitwise operators, I read a lot of information on this topic and couldn’t understand… until this course.

Why I wasted money to watch explainations that aren’t even good enough for youtube. And NO, I’m not here to watch you typing code 80% of the time.

I failed Grade 10 Math but thanks to Penny I somehow now know how to calculate Quaternion Algebra and utilize Eucledean Planes. 11/10 as usual Mrs. DeByl!
Steve Riggall –
Superb course. Penny is a fantastic teacher with well defined steps that take you through all the stages required to fully understand what is being taught.
Juli n Cruz –
In my humble opinion, the way how Penny takes the time to illustrate every single example is the way that we can learn better.
Daniel Iglesias Valenzuela –
amazing teacher, really nice documentation, i came from unity premium learn to continue learning from Penny, just really nice.

Penny is an excellent and credible instructor. I never felt like I didn’t have enough information to complete the challenges, the fact that she has challenges throughout is itself appreciated, and the content inspires me to learn more. Thank you so much for your effort in creating this course!

So far this is revision having spent the first 10 years of my IT career working in assembler but it is well presented for the beginner.
Jeffrey D Engelstad –
The step by step application of adding to each lecture. With good use case explanation of the code and outcome. Has made this easy to fallow along and helped me understand.

I love the course but this should of been

This is the second course I’ve taken from Penny. Excelent as the previuos. It contains the sweet spot where it haves enough knowledge to get things done, but not too much to overwhelm you. Thanks Penny
