Upon completion of this course you should be able to:

Summarize the steps involved in using PHP to accomplish basic database queries.

Have a solid foundation to take other courses involving PHP and database connections.

The purpose of this course is to empower you by preparing you to move forward in your web development studies.

Why PHP?

PHP is one of the most widely used open–source server–side scripting languages that exist today and it makes sense learning it the right way for two reasons: You can build more stuff quicker; the job market is widely open.

According to W3techs statistics, as of February 2019, PHP continues to outnumber other server–side technologies in their new–websites daily list. The other competitive language that comes close to PHP in new–websites is Ruby, but in overall, PHP is still the shiny star with a 79% of the web market , and that means that more maintenance jobs are available for new web developers looking for employment.

If you have taken other PDO (PHP Data Objects) courses and still feel as something is amiss, this course is for you.

You will feel safer when connecting to a database using this proven method.

Your code will be more readable and simpler to understand, but not simplistic.

Instructor Details

Name: Tony de Araujo Occupation: Teacher, technical trainer, and writer. Published author on Amazon. Research, development & engineering. Retired executive enjoying life while giving back to the IT community that has been part of my life for more than 45 years. Experience: Corporate IT trainer for over a decade, executive position in New York for 22 years leading a computer tech company, web development, general programming since the 80's, electronics engineering, rescue diver, musician, lifetime student. Special interests: How to cope with the effects of information overload. IO refers to the difficulty a person may have comprehending an issue and even making decisions due to too much data, too fast. It s important to become an intelligent consumer of information by eliminating, filtering out, or blocking any irrelevant data. To achieve this, we need guidance from someone who has already walked the path. Learners create (rather than receive) knowledge: Learning is not simply a process of absorbing information from others. Rather, it is a process of making (actively and intentionally constructing) knowledge and understandings. Pedagogic research is a form of self-study, or action research, involving critical reflection (and reflexivity) on current study practices. Pedagogic research gives way to new knowledge. It encourages investigating learning, including what works and what does not. If you ever find yourself paralyzed by documentation overload, take a step back as far as you possibly can, below your overwhelming threshold. Then, begin your journey again, but with caution. Rinse and repeat repetition is a key learning strategy. I've been around computer engineering and technology since 1981. As an avid researcher, writer, and teacher, I remain a lifetime student, but I've come to recognize that less is actually more. After working as a corporate instructor for a decade certifying thousands of IT professionals throughout the continental United States, I ran a tech company in the New York area for 22 years, but now I'm back as a teacher and continue my research on ways to diminish the IO epidemic in education. Tony is amazing at slowly explaining all the terminology that I otherwise couldn’t get from the vastness of web articles about PHP and PDO prepared statements. Much appreciated for this 🙂

Very good course: the teacher goes slow and calm and explains well the steps. I advice this course to who wants to put the basis in using PDO.

Very clear instruction and detailed. You can be assured this course is NOT one of those where the tutor simply types code and you follow along in parrot fashion. This tutor explains the concepts and ‘clearly’ shows you the PDO code to implement and what it all means. The audio is very clear with good English pronunciation. There are onscreen tips and help as you go along with the course. Code is broken down so you understand what you are typing. Well deserves 5 stars.
