Hey there, and welcome to the course, Pro, Unreal Engine, Game Coding. aka, the Black Book, but why the Black Book? Well, just watch the short preview video if you want the full experience. But if you like reading, then around 25 years ago, when I was just entering the games industry, there emerged just such a black book. A book of graphics programming, full of coding voodoo written by the programming powerhouse that is Michael Abrash. And this black book, took many coders like myself, from being merely competent, to being able to produce something akin to magic on the screen. It was legendary.
Naturally, a lot has changed since then, and in this course we’ve crafted a new black book for a new generation, a series of masterclasses in Unreal Engine game coding for the 2020s. I want to give you guys, what it was, that Michael Abrash gave my generation. I’m going to take you from being an Unreal Engine virgin, to being a real pro, and a prized asset to any employer.
My last game, GRIP: Combat Racing, will be the focus for the latter half of this course, and we’ll get to see an awful lot of what’s going on under the hood there. We’re going to expose all of its secrets. This journey will take you from being a C++ novice, all the way up to writing the most challenging racing game I’ve ever been involved with, and I’ve written a few. But if that sounds terrifying, don’t worry, we’ve got this. We can do this, together.

My experience with this course so far has been delightful. Everything worked out perfect. I am learning a great deal of information here.

Finally someone created what I would describe as an advanced course in UE4. Be worned tho, this course is a long one. It is not for people that don’t have time to put in the real work. Great Job! Thank you for creating this!

I like the idea of this course but wasn’t aware when I started that most of the source code would be provided, rather than manually written. At the stage I’m at in the course, it feels more like a lecture series on how Grip works than a course on how to create a game like Grip.

This is a GREAT course and deserves the 5 star rating. The teacher is VERY professional and EXTREMELY helpful in explain things in detail and answer questions as you go through the course. But this is not a course for the faint of heart. If you do not have the dedication to do the work, then it is not for you. You will spend many hours listening to lectures. Then reviewing the code discussed and debugging said code. You will be watching lectures more than once. There is simple too much to understand and grasp in once pass. Know the tools of your trade (C++, VS, Unreal, Math, etc.). We need to see more courses like this on Udemy. This instructor knows his stuff if I may be so bold. The course does start off simply but advances very rapidly from there in lectures and skills. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to produce games for a living. Your getting taught by someone who has been there. I will be following this instructor closely and be purchasing more of his courses if he is gracious enough to continue his wonderful teachings.

I’m a hobbyist with game making and recently switched from SDL2 to UE4. That instructor gives inside knowledge from the production project! It’s not like one more simple course here on the internet but a real world example. It’s gold mine.
