Programming for Beginners: Thinking & Writing Great Programs

Welcome to Programming for Beginners course. This is a course that is designed to teach the basics of computer programming, offering a solid foundation that can be used to learn almost any programming language. If you’re brand new to computer programming and/or you are lost in countless books and tutorials, then you had come to the right place. This course is best suited for you!
If you know the basics and you want to consolidate them and/or just to have easy access to them, for whatever reason, I suggest to enroll as well. A good knowledge of the foundations can easily correct many problems that may occur in your computer programs, so a little rehearsal does not hurt.
This course is valuable not only because it teaches you the basics of two programming languages but, more importantly, because it teaches you how to think correctly about the way you will write a program, way called algorithm. The actual programming is only the tip of the iceberg and a lot of work behind a good program will never be seen. Many programmers know how to write software, but they learned this only by practice, through trial–and error. They have little to no theory to back up their practical knowledge. This leads to a few major disadvantages:

Aunque al principio dude mucho sobre por donde empezar, ahora me doy cuenta de lo necesario que era para mi (begginer) comenzar con este curso. Los materiales al final del curso son muy buenos, ayudan a materializar los conocimientos adquiridos durante el mismo y entusiasmarse adentr ndose al mundo de la programaci n con la utilizaci n (‘hands on’) de los lenguages.

I am a self taught programmer, so my grasp of the principles underlying a lot of the best practices for programming has been pretty patchy. I purchased this course to help fill in some of those gaps, and this course has done just that. I came into the course already knowing a bit about algorithms, subalgorithms, variables, and logical schemes, but there were several aspects of those topics that I didn’t know which were covered, and so I’m quite pleased with the course. This course is very much a beginner’s course, and it does a good job of providing context for a lot of topics that get skimmed over in the rush to get to actually programming. If you started out programming by trial and error and/or following tutorials and code examples, this is a good introduction to/review of some of the principles behind how to code in general. The two ebooks you get for Pascal and C++ are also very good basic introductions to both languages and explicitly mention details that a lot of other sources treat implicitly, such as some of the restrictions of each language.
