Do you call yourself an entrepreneur?
Have you always wanted to have your own startup? Or maybe you want to work in one but have no idea where to start?
Do you have a great idea and know you can make it possible if only you could get some funding. But you need to show a working prototype to your potential investors?
Then this Ruby on Rails 5 course for building real world applications is for you. My name is Vishay Bhatia, and I’ll be your instructor for the course.
I am a self taught rails developer. Just like you I too was a newbie not too long ago. So I know how confusing and intimidating the initial steps can be when you have decided to take on learning to code for yourself. That is why this course is laid out in the most simple way possible. I don’t use complicated tech principles to get my point across.
What you will learn in this course:
We’ll start the course by walking through the application architecture, this will teach you the concepts you will need to understand the file structure and how the MVC structure in rails works.
We will learn on how to add styling to our app using the latest Bootstrap 4 framework.

Half way through now, and still, this is an excellent course! Great step by step explanation, very clear instructor and good quality videos. I love how he shows that even as an instructor, he makes (very) small mistakes sometimes, but then also shows how to solve them. I find this incredibly helpful, because you’ll be familiar with some of the mistakes you’ll run into as a developer yourself and the solutions for them/how to read them. I can very much recommend this course!

Instructor does not just read what he is typing. He actually explains why and what it does.

I found this course good overall, but spent so much time trying to troubleshoot Windows issues that I finally gave up.

Start with a simple app, which is what newbie need instead of bombastic us with complicated process, he show us the basic which i desperately need before move on to the more complicated stuff, very easy to follow. I like the way he make mistakes cause through u learn how to read error and correct them…

The links to the environment where to run are not good. First the setup goes into depth on a mac, but nothing about either Windows or Linux. Just a link to another setup up page. Alas there is the option to use https://www.nitrous.io/ but this service was cancelled 2016. EDIT: Varning: the cloud9.io is the kind of site that need a credit card. Since this is probably ok to have in the US of A, I prefer to have my card limited to nordic countries. Our banks doesn’t protect us in the same way as american banks. And I can t get rid of the porn site feeling when they ask for credit card. I would really have loved a new chapter how to set up Your own secure enviroment to get into the details… or at least a warning that this course doesn’t help You with this. (Vishay, I try to use Linux as much as possible.)

I built out taskr and it was really great. Vishay did a great job at explaining what he was teaching. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because when you’re done with the Taskr project it doesn’t look like the example shown in the preview of the app getting build. The app is kinda bare and lifeless. I had to figure out all the styling myself which is good for experience but if your going to say this is what were building then I would imagine by the end of the project my app would at least look identical. Anyway, thanks for a great class Vishay.
Tabitha Levine –

Christopher Karpyszyn –
Presentation isn’t great and looking at the Q&A the course no longer looks supported… feeling dread.
Gil Garcia –
This is exactly what I was looking for, jump in and make some apps as we learn! Good work sir!

As of now, I feel the course is awesome. Vishay explanation is clear and to the point
Venkat Ramaraju –
Extremely well explained, simplified all details so that even beginners get a good idea of how a rails application works.
