In this course we’ll learn how to build apps (web sites) with Ruby on Rails.
We’ll build this fun little superhero name generator website that will allow us to connect with a third party API to generate data and images, then we’ll learn how to manipulate that on our app.
I’ll also teach you the Ruby programming language. Most people get Ruby on Rails and Ruby confused, but they’re two different things. Rails is a web framework for building apps, Ruby is a programming language…we’ll learn both in this course!
We’ll also really dive into the the Rails controller (the C in the Rails MVC system). Learning how to work with the Controller gives you all kinds of power over your app to do really cool things.
Finally, we’ll also learn how to use the hugely popular Bootstrap CSS framework to style our app. Bootstrap is easily the most popular CSS framework in the world, and you’ll learn everything you need to use it right here in this course.
If you already know a little Ruby on Rails, this course will make you a much stronger developer. If you’ve never seen or used Rails at all; you’ll fit right in too! I take things slow and explain absolutely everything you need to know!

This is the second course of John’s that I have completed. And have enjoyed both of them very much!! My first ever Rails course was his Ruby on Rails for Web Development where he walks you through building a Pinterest clone app. I learned so much through that course even though I had just started learning Ruby and barely even knew what Ruby on Rails was. That app remains to be one of my favorite completed projects. I often refer back to the course when implementing the gems we used while creating that app in a new project. This course, Ruby on Rails: Superhero Generator, also proved to be a lot of fun to work on, while still learning new aspects of Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Definitely a good course choice on my journey to become a Rails developer. Thanks for another fun course John!

Initial beginner rating Great course simple and to the point not long and drawn out that would complicate.

followed the course and couldn’t stop. Short and sweet! Good drive for results and this is what really happen in life in terms of real application would have unique instances where you would not need to follow convention for example in terms putting code in view as happened in this course! Love it, highly recommended for learners!

It’s a pretty good overview of Ruby and RoR, especially if you are familiar with writing web applications using other languages but wanted to get a taste of what Ruby is like.

If I could give John Elder 10 stars I would. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. His method is very faced paced which I really liked. He doesn’t waste time and get’s right to the point but at the same time he is very clear and his tone is smooth. By the end of the course you will have a cute little app in which you can build on. I feel like I got a lot out of this course . All valuable things such as the cloud 9 ide , pushing to github and finally hosting on the cloud using Heroku. He also gave a great overview of ruby, rails and bootstrap.

Sim, est muito interessante. Curioso, ensinar primeiro o rails e depois o pr prio Ruby, ou seja, vai direto na parte pr tica, onde j mostra algum resultado.

Fantastic course! Practical and straight to the point.

Not a good match, cant even use the right website to follow along. Seems like updates are fairly useless and almost no thought went into how student would follow along, hope it gets better…

One of the best courses here in Udemy !

Ruby classes are tedious things that I don’t look forward to, generally. This one’s pretty engaging and fun, and I don’t feel like I’m being talked down to. So far, so good.
