In this course, we will learn the basics of Scala and functional programming, two highly in–demand topics in software industry today. Write 3000+ lines of Scala code yourself, with guidance, through 100+ examples and exercises.
Why Scala:
it’s currently the hottest language based on the Java Virtual Machine – the number of Scala jobs has exploded, but demand is even higher
Scala offers significantly higher pay (> 20%) than same–level Java positions
it’s incredibly fun – if you learn Scala, you’ll hardly want to get back
it unlocks the doors to some of the latest technologies – Spark, Akka and more
I like to get to the point and get things done. This course
deconstructs Scala – which is otherwise hard to learn – into the critical pieces you need
selects the most important Scala concepts and separates them into what’s simple but critical and what’s powerful
sequences ideas in a way that clicks and makes sense throughout the process of learning
applies everything in live Scala code
The end benefits are still much greater:
significant bump in salary when you switch to Scala – return on investment for this course >100x in the first year alone!
more enjoyable work – Scala is fun!

Abhinav Madikonda –
Exercises are very good, which are helping to understand more
Praveen Saini –
Video Voice is breaking in between.
Kowshik Murali –
I felt things were explained and stressed upon clearly. He is amazing
Dibya Darshan –
I wanted to see what this course has to offer. So far, so good !! I am a little experienced with working on Scala, so just looking forward towards the progress of the course. Probably by the end of all of the sessions, I’ll be able to give a review of the complete course.
Nitish Nishad –
So far I have done the first part. And the basics are covered in a quite good way. Will update this after I finish the course.
Tatiana Schaefer –
Really difficult for java developer, but excellent
Fuad Efendi –
Excellent!
Giacomo Zanotti –
I am currently at lesson number 6, and I find the course incredible. I’ve tried learning scala by myself and it is not easy at all. Since lesson 1 Daniel explain things very easily and each time he says something, you see it live on code. That learning curve is getting beaten to the ground!
Peter Stratton –
As usual, Daniel’s courses are excellent quality. The lessons are well structured and clear, the video quality is top notch, and the examples are non trivial.
Ignacio Nodal –
Un curso muy completo para sentar las bases de la programaci n en Scala. Las explicaciones de Daniel son muy claras y permiten al alumno adquirir o afianzar conocimientos de forma gradual y amena.
Frederico Alves –
I only have experience with Javascript and some PHP and I’m able to follow along with the courses so far.
Qinghe Liu –
Great
Stefania Massetti –
Pur non avendo mai fatto della vera programmazione a oggetti con Java ritengo che questo corso dia tutti gli strumenti per imparare al meglio quasi da zero, le spiegazioni sono ben fatte
Oded Deutch –
Looking good so far
Kannan Subramaniyan –
Installation of Scala is not included along with course. more example with variable & val
Nasta Mirko –
I love the way instructor teaches. Very interactive approach, and easy to understand language and manner of speaking
Talvinder Matharu –
It’s good basis for learning the basics of Scalar I find recursion overly complicated compared to programming loops in other languages. I feel it will slow down my development
Piotr N cka –
I liked the lectures, hated the exercises. For ME it was complete bullshit, no actual real life examples besides part 6 A Small File System. That part is great but has a lot of inconsistency regarding syntax, coding errors eg. the latest advice of code improvement which breaks program output. Poor experience.
Vatan Jaiswal –
One of the best course for Scala beginner.
Adar Lavi –
I felt like the project should cover the entire course, but since it used to be a project in the middle of the course it’s not like that… so the functional programming part isn’t covered as thoroughly as the oop part
Valentin Manolov –
good stuff so far
Mia A Leone –
He is really well paced
Calvin Ku –
Coming from Python, I feel that the fundamental concepts of Scala are explained very very well in the course. I didn’t like a lot of the syntactic sugar of Scala before this course but now I’m seeing the beauty of it. It’s pretty cool! I highly recommend this course!
Abhishek Dhar –
Exactly how I wanted to proceed with the learning. Plus the exercises are perfect. Solving the correct type of problems right after a theory is vital imo
Anastasi Bakolias –
Good for those with some previous programming experience. Not just Scala, also has great explanations of programming concepts like call by name, call by value, lazy eval, etc. Great teacher!
Nicole Yu –
I am a medium level developer, and I think the course so far is very logic oriented.. like the instructor is giving a good path for a programmer to learn. I guess those who did not give 5 stars, probably find it is not very easy to follow.. it is just my guess.. But like the instructor, I will assume the audience of the this course has learnt and known Java before.Or at least Scala is not the first programming language to learn. So I would give 5 stars.
