What real Students are saying about this course
Really great course 🙂 Tons of information about not only spring but also testing, docker, databases. Really recommend you this one! Thank you John 🙂
John Thompson is one the best instructors on Udemy and is the best Spring instructor. Awesome voice and clear explanations and slides.
I am an experienced Client side programmer with over 7 years of experience, currently in the process of migrating to the back–end. Before this course, I have tried many other courses, so I really mean this when I say it, this course is outstanding! The instructor is so expired and passionate about programming, It’s addictive.

Although it covers alot of topics, there were several lessons where the code was just given. I can understand and compromise where a portion of the code was provided. For example all the HTML and all the CSS, since this isn’t a front end course. But I think the best approach would be to take this landing files and then build on it, springing the application. For me the best way to learn is to write the code side by side with the instructor. In this course, such approach was not possible to follow along all the course. Nonetheless I think it’s an exhaustive course which covers allot of spring topics. Kudos for the hard work.

I am only about a quarter into the course and I find constant copy/pasting of the code quite distracting. It is making it very difficult to follow instructor’s train of thoughts. I will try to make it further into the course and then revisit my rating.
Fedor Denisov –
I reckon it’s the best Spring Framework 5 course.

I have worked on updates and maintenance of a commercially deployed Spring 4 application and build a Spring 5 application from scratch. Currently retooling after long term medical disability to refresh my skills and reenter the work force.

Most unprepared instructor I have ever seen. Just winging it as he goes along. Often times he is surprised when something does not work. True, this is great for showing us how to troubleshoot but not what I paid for. If someone wants to learn Spring Framework I suggest taking Chad Darby’s course, it is 1000 times more professional and I learned so much more.

Der Kurs ist zu IntelliJ lastig. Bis jetzt kam noch nicht viel, f r einen Eclipse Benutzer

Opted in to this course because it was the largest on spring framework 5 on Udemy. Only 74/524 videos done and this is where it starts to lose a lot of sense. So far I have noticed that the videos are poorly structured because random concepts are jammed in between videos losing continuity. Any concepts that are explained are either done poorly (just reading some slides) or done on random projects (again, losing continuity). I suggest the instructor to stick to 1 or at the most 2 projects to explain the spring concepts. I would have preferred if the instructor had just stuck to the one major project i.e Spring Pet Clinic to explain all the major spring concepts with a separate 2nd project as assignment, if necessary, instead of using what 5 different mini projects? It makes things very confusing and becomes difficult for the students to maintain any sense of continuity during the course. It would help if the instructor stopped modifying the code offline in between the chapters. This is a very frustrating thing I am noticing as the course is progressing into more complicated topics. I would like to add that the most interesting part of a tech course is to make something functional, in this case the Spring Pet Clinic. The instructor managed to skip past this somehow. Just blatantly copying everything from the main Spring app does not constitute as a hands on experience especially since he fails to provide any explanations as to why we are copying a particular line or code and what it effectively does. Somehow the most enjoyable part of this journey turned out to be the most tedious. Stuff like Task Planning etc. need not be a video on it’s own. Similar tasks should not be made into separate videos. Seems like it’s been done to unnecessarily increase the no. of videos and duration of the course. Another thing is the audio it is choppy. Can often hear white noise or the instructor’s phone ringing. The volume is also inconsistent at times. Although it’s not a huge issue but it would really help if the quality was improved. The background guru animation is also very distracting. Should reserve the self advertisement to the beginning of each video only. A bit more planning on how to structure the course and maintaining flow with useless fluff would help make this be a much more enjoyable and helpful course.

Its as close as it gets to teaching a novice everything what he needs while learning.
Anurag Rahangdale –
Lot of conversation & very less content, font is also very small it could be better with large one.
Vaman Deshmukh –
The trainer gives more theory and less practicals. Also, purpose of the course seems more to promote IntelliJ rather than teach Spring.

Excellent! Comprehensive and well produced. The instructor is clearly an expert in the topics and actually you can feel he’s a real guru. This course is very complete and probably one of the best in Udemy.
