In this course, you will become comfortable with Unity’s interface and its core features, by creating a project (with no coding involved) that includes both an indoor and an outdoor environment.
You will learn how to install Unity and to become familiar with the interface. You will also learn and use different shortcuts necessary to navigate through scenes and projects in Unity.
You will learn to create and export your first scene by combining built–in objects. You will also learn how to manage objects, apply textures and colors, and transform objects to create a simple scene.
You will create an indoor scene (i.e., a maze) with built–in shapes. You will also work with and manage lights in your scene to set the atmosphere and navigate through the scene with a First–Person Controller.
You will then create a realistic island with sandy beaches, water, and palm trees using Unity’s built–in assets, drive a car and pilot an airplane.

I’m evaluating this course to see if it appropriate to recommend to my students. It’s been very good so far.

Wonderful explaination from the instructor. I liked everything, even the clarity in speech. He gives explaination more precisely as I expected. But I thought that I will also get to know about coding in C#. But this was also fine.

This is a very good introduction to Unity and its interface and its basic workings. For me, it’s a refresher. The instructor is very knowledgeable and clear. Information is presented in an easy to follow manner. I would have liked a little more coding but this is an introduction and it’s not really necessary to know coding to use Unity and to set up a scene or even a game. I think it is a very good introduction to someone learning Unity or coming back to it after a pause. Learning the Unity interface and how to set up a scene is often very hard for a beginner. This course is very helpful in getting you comfortable with Unity.

This is a great course for beginners. The instructor does a fantastic job explaining steps and moving at a comfortable pace. Many beginner tutorials just tell you what to do. This course also explains the reason for doing certain steps without overwhelming the student with too much information.

In my opinion, this is one of the best Unity courses in Udemy for someone who is starting out with Unity. Before starting this course, I really didn’t know much about Unity. This course gave me the foundations on how to understand and manipulate the Unity environment and how to use the different tools in Unity to start creating simple games. The teacher also answers all the questions you could have about any of the topics he explains within the course.

Pat is giving a really nice overview of the Unity interface and the fundamentals of using the tool. I would recommend this video to anyone wanting to learn the basics and progress toward professional use.

Though I am familiar with unity, this was a good flashback to kick off again after several months of break.

I have downloaded several courses on Unity and this foundation course has helped me to get up and running with the software far quicker than the other courses, with my learning style. There is so much information given here and, Patrick is good at giving you the understanding at each section. The quizzes at the end of the chapter also helped me to retain the information a lot better. I would suggest to all newcomers to Unity to begin with this course, you will not be disappointed.

Excellent first (short) course for unity if you’re looking for one that does not involve coding, this is the best one I’ve seen. Patrick promises coding in the next course, and I suspect it will equally useful for beginners. These are not long courses, but great if you just want to get started.

I first became familiar with the instructor from his books on Unity, including the one that this course is based on. I was taking a game programming course at San Francisco State University, and it was based on Unity. Unfortunately, we did not get instruction in using the software. My first assignment was to create a scene. I had no idea where to begin, and a bit of research led me to the instructor’s books. It got me through the basics of creating a scene, and I turned in the assignment. I wound up dropping that course, as I was not happy with the professor, but when I saw that the author was starting courses with Udemy which I use extensively, I signed up immediately. This course is great. It takes you through a series of exercises, starting out very simple, and then building up. It is easy to follow, and it makes things very clear. Unity is a great platform for making games, but it can be overwhelming at first. When I first installed it, I felt very intimidated. But the book, and this course, have helped a huge amount. I look forward to the instructor’s future courses, including the one’s I have already added. If you want to learn Unity, this is a great place to start.

Need to get configuration information about the editor at beginning. My defaults are different from the instructor.

It was a very helpful and comprehensive guide about the foundations of Unity. I’ve never encountered this game engine before (or any other, as a matter of fact) and this guide was a great help to dive into the subject. Now I can understand the basic concepts and I think I am ready to learn more about the whole. As a graduate student who would like to get into the praxis of his topic, this was the perfect experience.

Really messy.
