Vim is one of the most widely used text editors in the programming industry, not because it’s the newest or shiniest, but because it can be found (or can be installed) on every type of system and more importantly it makes it possible to work / code must faster then you would otherwise.
Why doesn’t everyone use Vim if it’s so great? Well it does not have a standard GUI which means all the tools it provides must be memorized. People often think this is too much to learn at first and never try, but with this course, Jason Elbourne shows you the basic necessities to get up and running with Vim. The course won’t take up to much of your time. They will make your day to day coding much more productive, saving you time.

Most of the course is only a walk through of vimtutor. There’s a bit of interesting information, but too little.

Basically the course is opening vimtutor and the instructor reading those instructions to me, i can do that on my own.
Joe Salyer –
Good tutorial on vim.

I like your teaching style, keep up the good work.

Learned a lot about the Vim editor. Good through lesson 8 then he kind of lost me. His monotone voice makes me want to fall asleep. But he does cover a lot of material. It’s very thorough. Shows you by example and you can follow along using your own terminal.app in mac or in windows.

So far so good, and I like the pace

Good course overall, but over half the content is just doing vimtutor. The stuff that comes after that was really useful, although if the first part couild just be some of the slightly more difficult bits of vimtutor there would have been more time left for more advanced uses or plugin recommendations, etc.

It is very informative, easy to follow

I enjoyed and learned a lot from this lesson. It is easy to understand and to follow the lesson. What I like about the most about this lesson is that, the Instructor encourage you to do 1 lesson a day and ask you to keep practicing the command over and over for muscle memory. With this lesson, I believed I gained a knowledge that I need to become a better programmer. And I am sure I will rewatch this video lesson again as a refresher. But for now, I will keep doing the VimTutorials in the Vim command over and over again. Till I memorize the command and 110% understand everything. Thank you!

The first seven lessons are a nice run through the lessons in the command vimtutor. The rest of the course takes you from Beginner to Power Beginner.

Excellent course! This course is designed for complete beginners with no prior experience in working with Vim. I’ve tried several Vim tutorials in the past, including the built in Vimtutor but they all are either incomplete or didn t explain the use of Vim in practical use case scenarios and applications. The instructor in this course Jay, on the other hand, was very thorough and leads you by the hand so to speak through the basics on how to use this fantastic text editor. He also interjects useful tips throughout the course that obviously would only come from an experienced user who uses Vim in real world applications himself. I highly recommend this course to anyone (especially coders) who want to learn to use Vim to increase their productivity and be able to understand the more advanced Vim courses that are out there. Hopefully Jay will make an intermediate or advanced Vim course as a followup to this one. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn Vim. Thanks Jay.
