In this course I will teach you how to create the AAA standard character hair. We will start from scratch so don’t worry too much about being left out. Whether it be furs or actual character hair I got you covered.
In this course, you will learn & have answers to the following questions:
– How do I properly put hair cards so they don’t look flat and fake?
– How do I create realistic game ready hair textures super quickly but with max quality?
– How do I lay my Uvs and apply my textures properly so I’m not messing up anything?
– How can I make it seem like my hair texture has volume?
– How can I make this hair look more realistic?
– How do I use Xgen, Disney’s and Blizzard’s go to for beautiful hair & apply that to my own artworks?
Keep in mind this course is targeted for beginners who are a tiny bit familiar with Maya and Substance Painter. If you aren’t, no worries. What I mean by familiar is knowing basic controls of the softwares like panning, zooming etc. Anyway, goodluck and I hope you learn something valuable from this course. You don’t need to be a senior artist or an expert to be able to achieve great results! Come join my class, I got you fam.

SO easy and nice! Can you make a clothing tutorial next with the torn clothing stuff?
Rosel Tan –
Yume showed me the mistakes that I may make and how to estimate what to do when I’m the one dealing with the program. She actively teaches proactive learning, as well as independent thinking.

This course includes information what I want to know about hair cards for game.

This course is best for those unfamiliar with hair cards and wanting to do this professionally as it is almost entirely done in Maya. Maya of course costs $200 a month for the REST OF YOUR LIFE for a LEGAL version of the software, unless you happen to be enrolled FULL TIME in an ACCREDITED college. If you HAPPEN to be a college student, then you might be able to get the educational version of Maya for a few years before you have to buy AutoDesk a car every few years in order to use it. Of course, the course makes no secret of the fact that it’s built on Maya. So as long as you are comfortable with that this course is pretty good. It is a fairly complete workflow of making hair. Quite frankly, I would have rated this course 5 stars if it had of been built entirely on Blender, and might not have taken points off for using ZBrush and Substance (which I already own). (Edit: I’m really talking more about giving bonus points here rather than taking points off because it didn’t do this.) Blender is free compared to buying Autodesk cars. ZBrush is expensive, but I believe you can catch it on sale for under $400 that is the full price for life with free upgrades. And Substance is about a $30 a month subscription (for life also, but 6 or 7 times less expensive than Maya). If a student really knew what they were doing, I think they might be able to do this entire workflow in Blender alone with Blender’s hair particle system and Cycles. (Edited the previous sentence to make my intent more clear.) Otherwise, I’ve seen similar videos for free showing how to do the hair textures with ZBrush and Fibermesh. I don’t think Substance is really necessary as long as you can figure out how to bake the hair fiber models to planes for the various maps. All in all, this is actually a pretty good course, especially if you happen to have Maya and Substance just lying around. I was somewhat disappointed that gray hair was chosen, and would have liked it substantially more if it had of been a more natural young color of hair, but there is a place where it talks about hair color selection. Still, I would have liked to see how natural the end result of that is. And very surprisingly, the model shown in the advertisements has long hair, but producing long hair is not covered in this course anywhere that I saw. It’s shown at the end, but not explained. I’m guessing it is just more hair cards, but can you use the same textures you used on the short hair? Does it need longer hair fiber textures? Where do they attach? Do you do the same heavy coverage and then fly aways as previously demonstrated? Granted, long hair for game characters is still impractical until hair physics becomes the norm, but I still would have liked to have seen it demonstrated how to do very long and very short hair. Even the eyebrows and eyelashes were kind of breezed over rather than visually demonstrated. I don’t have Maya (or maybe I should say I refuse to buy cars for Autodesk when I need a new one myself). And I got this on sale. So, I feel like I got good value for my money, but it would have been nice if this course had of been built around Blender. I chose it only because I couldn’t find a Blender course covering the same topic. Bottom line, it was worth the price if you are new to this topic.

So far, great material. I acutally know the steps, but I’m looking for a tutorial that uses SP for the coloring of the hair mesh strans. I’m looking forward to seeing that process. The material so far is excellent.
Willie van der Heever –
Yes, it is exactly what I needed as the course so far is very beginner friendly. I have no prior knowledge with Maya’s Xgen and this tutorial has been veryeasy to follow.
Daniel Wester –
Was fairly easy to follow. It jumped around a bit and had me wondering, but that’s just me. I’m also not following along step by step. I figure I’ll watch the video first up until I start seeing what we’re actually producing and how it’s going to look in use before I start following the steps.

If you want to learn how to make hair I can’t reccomend this enough, I learnt so much. I was hesitant about x gen and been looking for alternative ways online to make hair; out of all them i went back to udemy and found this tutorial. Yume (tutor) is clear and easy to understand when teaching. I enjoyed this tutorial and learnt alot and I think you will too.

The course is so good. very good teacher.I’ve been looking for a course like this for a few days. Thank you
Tammy –
The course is excellent, teaches you everything you need to know. If you’re new to Maya you might have to google things sometimes or slow down to speed 0.5x since it can be quite fast at times, but other than that it’s great! I feel confident to create hairs now 🙂
