Do you want to learn React and Redux in the context of building a complete application? Do you want to learn about Firestore, the new Database offering from Google that provides ‘live data’ to our application? Are you the type of learner who gets most out of actually building an application rather than watching endless slides about how something is supposed to work? If so then this course is for you!
In this course we build a complete application from start to finish.
Every line of code is demonstrated and explained. We warm up by building a CRUD application in React, we then enhance it by adding Redux and following that we add in Firestore to provide the persistence layer for the application.
Here are just some of the things you will learn about in this course:
Setting up the developer environment
Creating a React application using the create–react–app utility from Facebook
Login and Register functionality using Firebase authentication
Adding social login for Facebook and Google into the application
Google maps and Places autocomplete integration
Photo uploading using drag and drop, with resizing and cropping of the images before upload

Installing Node Version Manager was a bit dodgy. Spend the time to keep a step by step PDF by OS that keeps current. Limit the options or do not even have choice for NVM since that is not the primary goal of this course. Second, I installed NVM and install Node.js latest versions and installed the stable version via download from the site the stable version. https://nodejs.org/en/ Only through trial and error did I realize if you don’t install via Powershell NVM command, NVM will not recongize the Windows 10 download and install. Also, I know perhaps some programmers feel they have more control with keyboard shortcuts, Terminal and Command Prompts but seriously, Windows, Menu, Drop Down should be incorporated. It is the 21st century and I feel like we’re still working not that far above punch cards.

Neil Cumming is a great professional, in this course he completely deals with the React library with Redux. The course uses Firebase / Firestore as a database in a very exhaustive way, so if this part doesn’t interest you, maybe this course is not for you. As for the author of the other courses, he answers the questions directly without intermediaries and periodically updates the course with the latest news and makes him one of the best teachers on Udemy.

I rate 3.5 stars for the course and have a few reviews with this course: First you need to remember: This course is not for newbies to React. because Neil seldom goes into theory and only gives a very brief introduction … but it also saves a lot of time for people who are already familiar with React. Good point: If you are familiar with React and you want to make a really big project, have many cool features, become familiar with firebase, firestore and do not want to spend a lot of time to care about the CSS of the project then This is the course for you. I have learned two React courses on Udemy, this is the third one and Neil’s project is the largest and has the most features compared to the rest React courses. Good point: Neil supports everyone in QA very quickly, this is the difference from the rest of Udemy. The bad thing about this course is that the features of the firebase provided Neil with a very brief introduction, making me sometimes not really understand what it really is, not understanding what he’s really doing, It would be a lot better if Neil explained the firebase features he was about to introduce. The next bad point is that the course has not introduced much about Hook in React, this is a very important feature that any course must go into depth to spend it, but Neil is very short introduction . Honestly, I’m quite disappointed.

Very good, very challenging course. Covered lots of ground. Expect to spend lots of time on it, but that is where you learn the most.

Production grade course. If you’re not an absolute beginer in react and redux get this one. For a React, Redux, Firebase/Firestore stack, this course will take you off the ground to build your own real project. So, for your own projects using THIS stack, this course is probably all you need, + reading some documentaion of course. If you are looking to get employed somewhere, of course you’ll need a much more wider knowledge from other sources but for real world React and Redux you’ll be covered here.

I started 3 other React tutorials before finding this one. I’m only in the introductory material but can already tell this is going to be great. What sets this apart is being able to view the end project of what we are going to build; the wonderful philosophy of skipping of redundant steps by using snippets, AND probably the best part is in recognition that so many js packages change he shared his package.json so we could use the same versions if desired. Wonderful verbal style clear and concise, easy to follow.

This course was very good and really allowed me to take a next step in development. Neil explained everything clearly and also responded quickly to any questions during the course. If you want to build your own web app with FERN stack than this is the right course to take! ps. There is one side note, mobile responsiveness is not taken into account in this course. You will need to learn this into a different course.

He tries his best to avoid all the complication we might run into. Every tiny detail is thoroughly explained throughout. Setting up the environment and run everything as same as the instructor and getting them to work is critical. He ensures that we will not face such scenarios.

Cours tr s bien con u, bien rythm et qui permet r ellement d’aborder React+Redux en d tail sans la barri re l’entr e que repr sente parfois une courbe d’apprentissage sur une nouvelle logique. Id al pour l’apprentissage par l’exemple.

The course material was fantastic. I am an old hat Java coder with minor experience in Javascript (think HTML 2.0). This gave me the knowledge I need to begin a whole new app in React/Redux/Firebase. One recommendation: create some simple flow diagrams outlining the data flows between components, props, state, reducer, action, action creators, etc. Maybe walk through a super simple example of EventList passing props to EventDetail, clicking the JOIN button, how that information/action flows back to state, etc. A single slide, a few boxes and arrows, a bit of animation/build out with dialog describing it all. Would be excessively helpful. Code walkthroughs are hard for new folks to absorb because we’re trying to build the mental model (the diagrams) while listening to new concepts being introduced and code being journeyed through.

Very clear and concise ! I’d love to have a bit more information to be able to build an offline first app using react, redux offline, firestore offline persistence 😉

I liked the way you are teaching Redux

This is a very comprehensive course with a lot of content. More than enough to get you started with React. I thoroughly enjoyed following along and will now use what I have learned to build my website.

I expected more manual typing! I know, it is tedious, but I’ve followed many of your other courses where we type everything manually, and I really like it. It makes you feel how it would be like to type all those things and it makes you learn by doing it. I am a bit disapointed that we get to have all baked up code at that point, but Udemy asked me after the first half of section 3, so I hope there’s gonna be more typing in the rest of the course. Again, very good course, well detailed, the instructor knows what he’s talking about, I really like his style. Everything is so clear, we are not faced with some weird things that needs to be explained, but the instructor says that it’s too complicated and we don’t need to know about it. Keep up the good work!

I can’t give 4 or 5 stars because I truly wanted a react hooks/firebase course, but this will do. This doesn’t mean the course is bad, it just means it’s not what I wanted, and because I can’t find anything that suites my needs I’ll get what’s best rated. Edit: I still wanted a React/Hooks course, that’s why this is not a 5 star rating. Neil is an amazing instructor and he explains in a way most people will understand. Edit: Now it deserves a 5 stars. I have never been able to understand redux before. Thanks do Neil I did :D.

As a beginner to React and Redux, after this course I am feeling much more confident in my abilities. I would love to see a follow up to this expanding on revents functionality. Maybe some notifications per user upon actions, like /dislike functionality or the ability to upload images to events. Great Job Neil!

Great course.

Amazing course. Probably the most complex and feature rich course I have seen…covers all the bases and does so in an easy to follow format. Love also the way he updated the course in 2019…I can’t wait to see what he does next. Highly highly recommended.

Yes, it was a good match because it covered the tech stack that I wanted to learn.

This is the best redux and firebase course. Takes you from beginner to intermediate. Neil explains concepts in a way that are easy to understand. Also if you post your doubts in the QnA Neil himself replies which is a plus. Hoping for more react course in future.
