Learning to code by making games is a great idea, yet things can get in your way. Some game engines are over–specialised, overcomplicated and can overwhelm new users. Furthermore C–family languages like C–sharp and C++ can be cumbersome.

It’s time to discover Godot, a general–purpose, simple and welcoming game engine. Powered by GDScript, a lightweight and easy to learn Python–like programming language, you’ll be up–to–speed with the fundamentals of coding in a jiffy.

Whether you re a complete beginner at writing code, an experienced developer wanting to explore this wonderful engine or a game designer who wants to embrace free and open–source software in your work, this course is for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need to learn a new programming language?

Absolutely, GDScript is based on Python – one of the most popular and productive coding languages in the world. As a beginner, this is a great place to start and experienced coders will find their coding improves with the perspective Python brings.

What if I don t like dynamically–typed languages like Python?

Hi, I'm Ben. I have a degree in computing from Imperial College London, and a physics diploma from the Open University. I started working for myself at the age of 15, and never looked back. I explored careers as varied as being a commercial pilot, stunt-man, rock climbing instructor, and more. None of these provided a continued challenge, and stable income in the same way technology does. After building and selling a home computer support business, I became an angel investor and business mentor here in Cambridge UK. I fell in love with teaching game development through one of my investments, and I now spend all of my time sharing my passion with people like you. I can't wait to help you experience the fulfilment, and financial freedom, that having a deep understanding of technology brings. So why not start learning to make games with me and my team now? Decent course overall but lets be honest. 2d section is really good except missing parts for 3.1, food fight 3d is also decent but not polished well enough. But kickabout section is complete disaster. I hated that section and it needs complete remake.

Only half of this has been updated to Godot 3.1. You can get around most of the 3.0 content but I have run into a few times where I have had to really look around to see the change for 3.1. Also, looking in the Q&A you will see many questions that are unanswered from the content creators. If it is a question you have, you hope another student can help you instead of an instructor. I am about halfway through this course at the time of this writing, and I have learned a bit, but I feel the instructors could have been engaged with the community and kept this course up to date, which would have made this a great course. Now with the release of Godot 3.2 I wonder if this will even be updated to that release as 3.1 was never fully transitioned here.

Totalmente recomendable.

I tried the Unity C# one and liked it, though I found Unity itself to be a little unintuitive. Godot, on the other hand, is much better and you guys do a great job of teaching it. Very glad to have found this course as well.

This course is amazing for people who are new to gamemaking or coding or both. This course teaches Godot in a very easy to understand way. This course is also *the* ultimate course which means that this course teaches everything there is to learn about Godot

I’ve taken the unity courses by these folks. When I saw that they made a course for Godot, I didn’t even hesitate. I found the course for me to learn Godot from. These guys are ALWAYS thorough and leave you with a solid understanding of how to use the program. Other tutorials walk you through building games, and you basically just copy what they do, and that’s about it. These instructors make you think, and explain what things are, and why/how they are using them. This isn’t just another class that somebody who knew how to use the engine threw together. This is an educational course. Simply great.

Yann is a very good teacher He’s very clear, and easily understood. I especially like the small items of humour he throws in. I’ve learnt quite a bit from this first video already. (Although I would disagree about ‘hash’ I would consider that we in the UK call it an Octothrope). Great course so far!

Yann is a great teacher! I really love his enthusiasm and the way he keeps you entertained even while teaching the most boring topics and complex content. I learned a lot during this course, I think this is one of the best courses I have ever had here on Udemy. Speaking about the content itself, I think that Godot is a beginner friendly engine, suitable for someone who is interested in game development, and this course is by far the most fun way to learn it. Thank you Yann, keep it up!
