GatsbyJS is a modern static site generator for React that comes with all the tools you need to build fast and highly performant applications. In this 3–hour course, you will learn how to use GatsbyJS by leveraging React skills you already possess.

First, we introduce you to GatsbyJS. Then you’ll set up your environment, clone a simple starter web app repo, and go over some of the fundamentals. You’ll learn how to use GraphQL to query data from flexible sources and take advantage of Gatsby’s templating functionality to programmatically generate pages. You will incorporate some plugins to improve performance and usability, optimize images, and finally deploy your site with Netlify.

By the end of the course, you will have a fully functioning, end–to–end blog web application and will feel confident about building applications with GatsbyJS.

It’s not even close to what I was thinking it would be. First, most of the code is copied during the course where you need to retype them (some you can find in the readme file, but if we need to copy/paste it should be attached at resource to lecture). Why I don’t like it it is because you constantly need to pause the video, retype, when typing along when listening what we typing is much more understandable and much more didactic, and the instructor explains much more doing it that way. Second, the explanation is terrible, if I am putting some metadata or some witter:card with content: summary large image I wanna know what it does, just telling type this here is less than I can see on plugin page, so if u need some deeper understanding of any plugin it is used and options it provides you should google it or see plugin docs. You don’t need this course for pasting code and let’s move on. For example, I wanna know what benefit I get with metadata og:title, what content can be inside, how can you get more of each plugin, in this course its just school’s examples. At the bottom, you should probably learn more in official docs or simple google search. Probably if you are a beginner and you don’t even know what SEO means and how important it is maybe this might be for you. I took this class only because it said intermediate and i was hoping to get much much more than this copy/paste school examples

This is a fantastic course! I’ve never used Gatsby before, and have little React experience, but I’ve just walked away with a functioning website! The explanations are really clear and the structure of the course is great. A lot of the code is copied and the author then explains what each line does. You have to pause frequently to get everything down but I found, by listening to the explanation, then pausing and typing everything in one go worked a treat. Plus is makes sense that the author didn’t type everything out during each video. If she did, can you imagine how long each video would be?! Totally disagree with the 2 star comment that’s left here which seems to be based on 1 single video from section 1. Section 1 is pretty basic but it’s essentially the setup course and, as it obviously isn’t a course about SEO, the one video that covers that topic doesn’t go deep on the topic because, well, the course is about Gatsby, so why would you expect in depth explanations about the metadata? The author tells you what you need to know to get all the pieces of a website together and I think she does a really good job doing just that. And it’s pretty obvious that changing the name on the twitter card to summary large image is simply that… a name change to easily identify the change in the console. If you’re after an intermediate course why would you need something so simple explained? Section 2 is one of my favorites. I’ve never used GraphQL before but it’s incredibly cool! I learned a lot more about the different types of plugins in section 3 (the author DOES go into detail here so maybe Mr 2 star should’ve watched more than one video) and section 4 it’s lots of fun as you really get into the meat of Gatsby and learn how to programmatically create pages. In the final 3 sections the author goes over how to optimize images on your Gatsby site and then switches from markdown files to a CMS in section 6. I’ve never used Contentful before but I’m definitely a fan of how easy it is to use with Gatsby. Finally, in the last section, the author walked through deploying the site on Netlify, which is incredibly simple. Definitely recommend this course to anyone who is hoping to learn Gatsby &/or anyone that wants an easy way to walk away with a fully functioning website of their own at the end of the course. This was my first Udemy purchase and I am more than happy with what I got out of this course.

It really does not cover my expectatives. It’s suitable for beginners, but does not really go deep in concepts, and that’s confusing. It really has a lot of potential as a course, but things need more details than the tipical copy paste solutions. I really think it can improve a lot with more detail in basic examples and more realistic productive features. My big expectation was the CMS headless integration, but it was too basic using a service like contentful and just going through plugins.
