Instructor Details

Hi there! I'm a New York City-based software engineer, author, and consultant who's been teaching on Udemy since 2016. Like many of my peers, I did not follow a conventional approach to my current role as a web developer. After graduating from New York University in 2013 with a degree in Business Economics and Marketing, I worked as a business analyst, systems administrator, and data analyst for a variety of companies including a digital marketing agency, a financial services firm, and an international tech powerhouse. At one of those roles, I was fortunate enough to be challenged to build several projects with Python and JavaScript. There was no formal computer science education for me; I discovered coding entirely by accident. A small work interest quickly blossomed into a passionate weekend hobby. Eventually, I left my former role to complete App Academy, a rigorous full-stack web development bootcamp in NYC. The rest is history. I've always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and education, especially since I've struggled with many of the traditional resources people use to learn how to program. My goal as an instructor is to create comprehensive step-by-step courses that break down the complex details into small, digestible pieces. I like to build the kind of material that I myself would have loved to have when I was starting out. I'm passionate about teaching and would love to help you discover what code can do for you. See you in a course soon!

It is a very comprehensive Ruby course. However starting chapter 170+, I am starting to fall asleep due to the over detail. I suggest that the author restructure the course into sections (novice, intermediate, advanced) so that the student can focus on the immediate essentials. Boris also talks too fast, which I like, since I am rushing to finish this course.

Whilst repeating a concept once might be a good idea, there is so much repetition of things that have already been covered that it has become difficult to concentrate, I was hoping the course would be more concise than this. Sticking with it is so far difficult, but I am hopeful that the course content becomes richer in the next few modules! Edit: The author of the course has suggested a refund, but that was not the purpose of my review, I’m simply stating my experience so far, but I am sticking with it and hope it becomes better (and if it does I will edit my review). I’m simply hoping that this review helps put accross that some people need skippable lessons if they understand a concept, that is just going to be repeated lots.

This is an amazing deep dive into Ruby! Boris is wonderfully charming and extremely informative. As an experienced developer, there were a few spots that got a bit dull to me since they were basic concepts of programming, but for anyone starting their journey here, you are in good hands!

Ruby version 2.3.3 is outdated and my terminal won’t allow me to install it. Please update the course content with an announcement or update on how to install the latest version, and if the latest version supports anything being discussed in 2.3.3.

The instructor is SO GOOD. He is clear, thorough, and explains everything to total newbies without making you feel patronized. He should do more courses.

This course provides a great intro to Ruby and programming languages. Each section is easy to understand and a good length of engagement. Programming challenges and quizzes throughout are useful in reinforcing lessons learned. The instructor’s enthusiasm is motivating as well. I learned so much and will continue programming. Thank you!
