Hello!

This is Part 1 of a series of courses intended to dive into the inner mechanics and more complicated aspects of Python 3.

This is not a beginner course – if you’ve been coding Python for a week or a couple of months, you probably should keep writing Python for a bit more before tackling this series.

On the other hand, if you’re now starting to ask yourself questions like:

I wonder how this works?

is there another way of doing this?

what’s a closure? is that the same as a lambda?

I know how to use a decorator someone else wrote, but how does it work? Can I write my own?

why isn’t this boolean expression returning a boolean value?

what does an import actually do, and why am I getting side effects?

and similar types of question…

then this course is for you.

Please make sure you review the pre–requisites for this course (below)  – although I give a brief refresh of basic concepts at the beginning of the course, those are concepts you should already be very comfortable with as you being this course.

In this course series, I will give you a much more fundamental and deeper understanding of the Python language and the standard library.

Instructor Details

Hi, My name is Fred Baptiste. I started my career with a PhD in mathematics and have been programming professionally for over 25 years in a variety of technologies and languages, including Python, .Net (C# and VB), Java, C++, and JavaScript to name a few, and databases including relational SQL databases such as MS SQL Server and Postgres as well as No-SQL databases such as MongoDB, Couchbase and Neo4j. Since 2011 I have been focused on Python almost exclusively, mainly in REST API development and data management and analysis using back-end databases such as SQL Server, Postgres and MongoDB. I have spent a lot of time and effort learning and gaining an in-depth understanding of Python and writing idiomatic Python, and I'd like to share that with you. I'm definitely a Python enthusiast for many reasons, and I'd like to share that passion with you too!

So far so good. I went through a Python mega class and that got me up and running but this course is truly the deep dive and promotes a better understanding of Python. Knowing how to do something is one thing; understanding why you do it is another.

I thought this course was extremely well done. It helped explain what was going on under the hood in python and brought many coding ideas that I had been doing for a while and gave me an understanding of how and why they worked. I am looking forward to the next 3 parts.

Fred Baptiste does an amazing job working through the intricacies and low level implementation of the Python programming language. When it’s called a deep dive, it’s a deep dive. You’re going to be in over your head initially, but Fred’s explanation of a concept, then moving into the implementation of the concept in code are on point and drastically improve understanding and retention. Thank you!

This is the best Python course I’ve taken so far. I did not even finish yet, but I can tell you that you’ll never find something as deep as this course. Everything is very clearly explained, slides are clean, coding time is perfect. If you want to master Python, take the whole series. It worth the money, it worth the time.

Content is great and pitched at an appropriate level. Only comment so far is that there are no end of section tests to ensure that what was covered was understood. My previous Python course had that and it was a great help.

The best structured Python class I see in here. Very profound knowledge of the instructor and very logical approach on concepts, not these weaker learning by examples approach. Very straight speech of the instructor, no ehhhs and hhs. Very good material.

there are few courses for intermediate learners out there, this one is ideal for diving deeper, as the title suggests. 1/2 star because the videos and the annotation function sometimes don’t load properly.

After 2+ years of using python at work I thought I had a good understanding of it. Oh boy was I wrong. This course really helped in understanding the misterious magic of python (like closures, decorators and the import logic). The instructor is gifted with a very clear and expressiv kind of teaching, I find it almost art. The topics are really good structured an explained.

I was looking for a class that would not waste time with telling me what a loop is. This class is a must take. The only negative is that there is a lot of repetition. I believe it could have been done in half the time by eliminating a lot of the repetition and, in some cases typing. Still, I highly recommend it.
