This course is potentially the best and most complete you will ever find about Unity C# scripting from beginner to advanced: it really takes you from the very foundamentals of coding to quite advanced concepts all in one course and Jonathan is an awesome teacher. So why am I giving it only three stars and not five? Well.. let me start telling you that at a point I considered giving it LESS than three stars but then decided to give it a three because it’s so good. The reason why I really can’t help myself giving an higher vote is that it has a (for me) fatal flaw: having a proper interaction with the teacher itself in the Q&A section is like winning a lottery. I’ve posted some questions but never got an answer… there’re questions months old with no answer from the teacher but, at times, a single answer pop up to some very fortunate student in a totally casual way (so as I said.. like winning a lottery). Unluckily a course were you can’t have your question answered, expecially on a subject that can be extremly confusing and complex as coding, more than halves the quality of the course itself. If the contents weren’t so good I would have probably gave it a 2 instead of a three just for this reason. So… if you’re an experienced coder just wanting to go back and refresh your knowledge or you just don’t care about asking… take the course, it’s awesome. If you need to post questions, receive answer to make your mind clear on the subject… I really would think twice about taking this one course and perhaps look for a course were the teacher (or any staff members) are actually present and willing to help you out. I will change to rating if the Issue’ll be solved in the future.. but at the moment I’m not that positive about it.

TIP FOR BEGINNERS TAKING THIS COURSE: start in the variables section and come back to quick tips. If you don’t know what a variable is, you don’t need to be learning about particle effects. Stupid that it’s laid out this way. I struggled until I got there. Anyway onto my review: Very good content, but I started off super confused the Unity Quick Tips section just kind of throws you into the deep end with a bunch of random concepts, ranging from beginner to intermediate/advanced. That said, once I skipped that, went to Variables and came back around to quick tips it’s a pretty great course! If I could leave feedback, I’d say move quick tips to the back of the course, since they’re structurally all over the place. Sort of like a little addendum/epilogue to the course.

It was just what I needed. I had intermediate coding experience with Unity in the past, but I stepped away a couple of years ago. This was a perfect refresher that extended my knowledge base in some areas.

Excelent course, it teachs everything from basics to advanced C# scripiting in unity, the only thing it’s lacking is some aditional challenges on the more advanced topics, but other than that it’s great, definetly recommend checking this out.

Great lessons, I have more of his lectures and he has a gift of explaining everything so clear. Way to go, Jonathan! Btw, lesson 34 is without sound : )

This is literally my first video, I’m basing this rating on a previous course with the same host. I’m hoping that this course helps me understand the other one better, but I do feel a bit ripped off that I’ve had to buy two different courses.

it was good, just couldnt access the free courses on the gamedevhq site so it was hard not having that, but otherwise i did learn things.

Learned more in 2h of this tutorial than 75h of other Create a game tutorials on Udemy. Very recommended if you want to understand Unity C#

Enjoy Jon’s training. This is the second course I’ve purchase.

Programming wise this course will shure help me understand some mechanisms better. I think the length was spot on and i did not get tired continuing the course. Challenges make sure you follow along and understand it well. I think the integration with gamedevHq is bad, especially since some assets where required to do the challenges and it was not possible to do without looking for alternatives online. In general happy with this course

Brilliant content and course structure for amateurs. But as the concepts gets tougher in certain sections, the reason behind syntax and code logic could have been more elaborate… I felt like it was hurried in certain sections where the concepts were complex. Otherwise nice course!

This course was amazing. Jon clearly explained each lesson, and gave a great use case each time that helped me see practical use for each concept. I would highly recommend for anyone needing a refresher on C# or wanting to learn for the first time.

This course is amazing, I’ve learned a lot about OOP programming, and the instructor is really engaging!

Jon provides clear quick explanations, and ties them to useful game building ideas. He goes over the basics, which is quite important even for experienced programmers because C# does a few things differently.

so far so good..

Most Unity tutorials or courses I’ve seen just tell me what to use, or they prattle on as they try and explain how it works. So far, this one has a very good structure to explaining the code to someone like me. It might be a little demotivating as a first course, since you don’t seem to have any projects that you work on that give you a tangible I did that! feeling.l But, I feel like I’m getting a much better understanding for what Unity can do, and how I can work with code to do it.

I start with 3 stars, even if I like the course so far. I am a compete beginner. I started with another course and even if they said it is a course for totally new beginners. I felt that it was not. So I thought I try this one. But, if I hadn’t tried out the other one, I am not sure that I would understand anything here. Since there is no explanations at all in the beginning. I felt that we jumped right in. I already had visual studio downloaded, I already checked out unity’s interface and I already tried ut writing some codes down. The only difference when it comes to writing down codes in this course, is that they worked. They didn’t work on the other one. So thank you.

Great course; only part I didn’t find very helpful wsa the section on Delegates & Events. I kind of understood how to do them, but not why?
Dwayne Martin –
The instructor is very clear, and this is a great resource for when you say How do I do this in c# again?

Great Content. One of the best recourses for learning game development.
Joshua Sims –
Excellent explanation of concepts, and the inner workings of Unity

This course is a good place to start before taking other courses like the Unity 3d/2d gamedev.tv courses.

was fun ride! 😉

I already know GameDevHq for a long time now. And i rly like the content and the teatcher skill. For this course i rly needed something to go out of the simple way of coding game like whe learn in the begining to go in intermediate lvl with use of class and interface for dodge the inevitable monolithique code whe get with toons of if else and bool for flag. With so much ref rance that at some point you can’t go finish your project. Sade whe didn’t start to learn game like this at the begining.
