2019 Update: Check out our new Section on the ShaderGraph! Creating shaders can now be done without writing a single line of code!
Making your Unity games look amazing is easier than you think. You don’t need to be great at programming and don’t need incredible 3D art skills.
Creating immersive games starts with understanding the secrets of lighting and being able to squeeze maximum value from your technical art pipeline.
This course assumes that you’re a little bit familiar with Unity but doesn’t require you to have any programming or art experience. We will take you through Unity’s lighting toolset and discuss everything from colour theory to shadows to materials that emit light.
More specifically, the course will start off with basic light set ups such as a single point light and build up to complex lighting setups. Among other things, the course covers:
Direct realtime lighting including directional lights, point lights and spotlights.
Global illumination theory and principles, both realtime and baked (pre–rendered).
Emissive materials and how they can be used to make specific items in your scene stand out.
Three– and four–point lighting set ups – how to create them, how to vary them and how to use them for different effects in your games.

Nice!

The content is interesting and new from a beginner’s perspective. I’ve learnt lots of new techniques and art theories from the course. Wilmur delivers his content in a logical manner and in a speaks at a pace/tone which is easy to follow. Thanks.

I was really on the fence with this one. Buying a course on lightning seemed unnecessary. But Wilmer teaches details and technical background on lightning in Unity, like no one does on free Youtube tutorials. I especially liked the perfect explanations on the different render pipelines, how they influence performance, how they work. It is crucial to understand, if you are serious about publishing a game/app at the end. There are so many settings I just blindly fired up, now thanks to Wilmer I truly understand them for the first time. The final Shader Graphs bonus section is also a perfect introduction to one of Unity’s most important functions on creating surfaces for your 3D game objects. I fully recommend this course.

The lighting section went over everything concerning lighting in Unity which I couldn’t find in other tutorials that were more general. The course then went further to teach the render pipelines which I didn’t have a good understanding of before and even cooler the shader graph which I’ve been wanting to get my hands on.

I like this course very much. The teacher explained it in detail and easy to understand. The only thing I wasn’t satisfied with was the lack of Chinese. 😛

The course is too good. Helps you boost your level.

I am in Section 3 and so far, this course is extremely well taught and informative. Now, I am relatively new to Unity coming from Unreal Engine so I appreciate the step by step explanations and demonstrations. The instructor is very clear in his communication and I think the course structure and material is well prepared. I am really eager to continue forward.

Wilmer is a great instructor and will not just say Good Job unless he really means it. If you mess up or it doesn’t look right, he’ll tell you why and how to fix it. The main reason it didn’t get 5 stars as, I found the course to be too fast. That could be just me not getting the lighting concepts quickly. Maybe if their was extra videos going through some of the more complex lighting with challenges. Other then that. Amazing course. I already have GameDev.tv Unity 2D Course, Unity 3D Course, Motivation & Blender 3D Courses. So, Thumbs Up!

Amazing Course! There is so much knowledge shared in the topic of lighting in games, and the additional bonus sections are really interesting. Furthermore, lots of well designed challenges help reinforce the concepts!
Yancey Smith –
Very helpful for learning about Unity lighting. I have always wondered so many things and now I know all I need to know!

Really breaking down how the lighting works so far. Most new thing to me was the biasies of the lights to control the shadow accuracy.
