This course is the perfect introduction into creating WordPress themes for WooCommerce. Prior to taking this course I had not written a single line of PHP, however, I am a web developer coming from the world of JavaScript & Node so the HTML, CSS and even PHP language constructs were easy to understand. It is probably wise to have some background in HTML/CSS at the very least to get the most out of this course. Knowing PHP or WordPress development would obviously be better, but in my opinion, is not required. I have purchased at least 10 courses from Udemy on a variety of topics including Node, React, Excel, Java, Android, etc so I consider myself experienced in evaluating the overall quality of a course. I can confidently say that this course ranks in the top 10% of those I have taken. Here is why… The end product is quality. We design a custom theme for WooCommerce that looks and functions well. I was impressed with some of the use of CSS even though it is not core to the course. It is always interesting to watch another developer work and pick up tips. Marcelo is very thorough, covering many of the topics I was wondering about on my own before enrolling. How do I integrate Bootstrap/CSS/JS How can I make a slider What is the file structure and what do the files do How does WordPress even work The Loop How do I develop locally How does PHP fit in As the course went along I picked up on other good things. Marcelo follows WordPress coding standards. Learning how to do things right the first time is very important. There are also tons of resource links provided, which will take a while to read, but are nice to have. The course also follows a logical order and I had ZERO fatal errors that stopped me in my tracks. Those can be a big problem with Udemy courses that aren’t updated/accurate/detail oriented. When I did have a minor problem I asked a question and the response came within 24 hours. It turned out I had switched a setting and caused the minor issue myself but Marcelo pointed out what I had done nicely. The bottom line is that this course was worth every penny of the $9.99 USD I paid for it, and probably a little more than that when compared to some to the other content on this platform. I completed 87 out of 100 lessons since I am not interested in testing a theme yet and I will be deploying to Digital Ocean and not using cPanel. Now it is time to start making my theme for WooCommerce and see how I do! Thanks Marcelo!

Awesome! This guy is a great teacher. When he says you won’t find some of the stuff anywhere else he’s not lying. I’ve been developing WordPress as a freelancer for just over a year but hadn’t done any WooCommerce stuff. I learned a lot, and not just about WooCommerce! He shows you the correct way to do things. For example I used to use acf for all my custom fields, now I know that’s just not necessary. I now know how to add fields within the WordPress Theme panel the way they’re supposed to be implemented, and spoiler it’s not that hard. Best practices, security etc.. I love the bootstrap nav walker! I’m a javascript guy for the most part and this course really helped me grasp the whole php and wordpress add action with priority system. Just an awesome course and honestly I listened and followed along at 1.5x speed for the most part. I recommend to anyone who would like to fill in gaps in their understanding of WordPress. Great job Marcelo!

It’s a good place to start for wordpress theme development overall. The instructor is clear, consise and from what I can tell, active on his Q&A (which is invaluable) I think the content covered is worthwhile, however, I am slightly disapointed in this courses label as advanced course. I’m not sure if it is just me but I think that this, in terms of theme development is actually not far from the basics. I would urge Marcelo to expand this course further with topics such as: Backend order and checkout hooks (features such as changing checkout fields, adjusting pricing based on custom factors, fees, add on items, custom forms, custom shipping peramiters) custom product fields, and AJAX (this surely is an absolute must) I think this course really needs these kinds of sections to really earn the name Advanced Course”. I would love to reward this course with a higher rating, but I just don’t think the course should be labeled with advanced.

I was going to wait until I finish the course to leave a review, but I’m halfway through and I can already say it’s one of the absolute best courses I’ve taken on Udemy. It does not waste your time dwelling on extraneous concepts like CSS and does not use any unnecessary technology that might require extra setup or become outdated like Webpack. It’s straight to the point and extremely clear in every topic discussed in each video. I had been searching for a course, where I could learn how to build a custom theme for woocomerce, but I found none until I dropped a few keyword in Udemy and I met Marcelo. Marcelo is really dedicated to what he is doing, just by looking at his enthusciasm we understand why he has designed such a long and fully course for combo of WordPress+Woocommerce. I definitely would recommend this course to other e commerce holder or desginer as well. I have been holding e commerce , which use woocommerce platform and I use ready made theme there. By using this I cannot hold my website destiny, so now I rather build a custom theme, which will have better SEO and much lighter in loading time.
