Enjoyed the course very much and it taught be a great deal, however we should have wrote all the code and not downloaded a file containing it, as I found it was harder to understand what the code actually meant and why we needed it in that location within the script file, but all in all a very good experience

The game building was great, and it worked in the end, but I had issues getting there. For Part 1, I am using the latest version of Unity 3D (Unity 2017.1.1f1). It’s a different version from the tutorial and with the change to Microsoft Visual Studio for coding instead of MonoDevelop, the Help section doesn’t work like it did in the tutorial with MonoDevelop. Also, after leaving and coming back, Unity dropped an image from in front to behind the background, causing a major pain trying to fix it by creating layers for every object (might want to go over layering earlier in the tutorial.) Lastly for Part 1, there needs to be stressed that the naming conventions for items and variables are to be exactly the same as in Part 1, since there is a new code file being used in Part 2. Took me a while to figure out that the worm image name that I created needed to be changed to the be the same as the name used in the colliding code. In Part 2, I was surprised to see that I had to pay to finish this game tutorial. It would have been better if both of the Tutorial Parts was free so that the game is completed and you have an understanding of the basics. For the rest of Part 2, again from using the latest version of Unity, when I added the particle system to the pitchfork, the particle system was stuck behind the background. After a few searches on Google, what I found that worked was that I had to create a separate game object and attach it to the pitchfork as a child object to get the particles to show in the Game Window when running. Then I saw that another student found that the Material needed to be set in the new version. Works both ways now. The Asset Store tab was already there, so that portion of the tutorial would need updating as well the Unity site has been updated and the way to add assets from the site is a little different from the tutorial. The Import worked well and adding it in as a child for the pitchfork was easy. Overall, if it hadn’t been for the upgrade to Unity, I would have rated this set of tutorials 4.5 5 Stars.

I thought the instructor was excellent. Great pace and complete explanations of every detail. He is obviously well versed with teaching methods. The videos were short and sweet yet progressive in nature. The only downfall is that I would prefer to have another more advanced course with the same teacher. ie. C# course basics and intermediate courses and a 3D course too. However saying that I got plenty of foundational skills from this great little course. I think if I listed through without following the actions will give me a more solid understanding of the essential basics which are vital in any learned skill type.

For a beginner like me with 0 programming skills ,it was very clear the way he explained stuff. Some things got clear how games are made for mobile. But I would like the instructor to use more game making examples 🙂 Hope to learn more from him and wait for more game making tutorials from him

Ken does a really great job of covering most of Unity’s features with a simple game and at a pace anyone can understand. In only 3 hours of your time, you can create an entire game from scratch! I can’t think of a better tutorial to show so many features in so little time.
