This course is an introduction to how to use relational databases in business analysis. You will learn how relational databases work, and how to use entity–relationship diagrams to display the structure of the data held within them. This knowledge will help you understand how data needs to be collected in business contexts, and help you identify features you want to consider if you are involved in implementing new data collection efforts. You will also learn how to execute the most useful query and table aggregation statements for business analysts, and practice using them with real databases. No more waiting 48 hours for someone else in the company to provide data to you – you will be able to get the data by yourself! By the end of this course, you will have a clear understanding of how relational databases work, and have a portfolio of queries you can show potential employers. Businesses are collecting increasing amounts of information with the hope that data will yield novel insights into how to improve businesses. Analysts that understand how to access this data – this means you! – will have a strong competitive advantage in this data–smitten business world. Duke University has about 13,000 undergraduate …

The final exam is very, very difficult

This is one of the awesome course that I studied. A tutor is also very nice she has good knowledge of the subject and hands–on increases my knowledge

The exercises force you to think deeply about what you’re doing, and use a variety of useful sql logic. However the environment works against you: both environments lack the syntax highlighting that would make these questions so much easier in sql server. The Teradata environment only allows you to view about 10 lines of code without scrolling, and has no tab or autocomplete. This was fine up until the last test where some of my queries were 30 lines or more. The last week was so painful that I would recommend other learners find a different course. Such a shame because the exercises are thoughtfully designed and I did learn a lot.

great course, great instructor!

Great SQL course. I think the course overall is well structured and let me stretch myself week over week. It’s a little difficult to write long query in SQL scratchpad though.
Gizelle A –
very difficult to follow

I quite like the course, the only problem is accessing in China is extremely difficult, viewing videos is not possible lessing using VPN.

I prefer have the result of the question. I prefer check the result of my query in order to be sure that I done well. I have lost time to revise my query when they are good and other times I believe my queries are good meanwhile I was wrong.
Heming L –
comprehensive. no need to download or install SQL server offline, all the practices are online browser–based. but require lots of time to practice to complete each week.
Peter L –
Excellent programme. Compelling and clear. with challenging but feasible tests

This course was very organized and it helped me have a much deeper understanding of sql!

Challenging, insightful and informative. And excellent course on using MySQL and TERADATA for business analytics.

Last week was hard

The course content is great and I love how you get to use real, large data sets to practice queries. However, this course is ultimately costing much more than I anticipated due to technical issues, relating to issues accessing the Terradata exercises and juypter notebooks. This makes it difficult to plan your week ahead of time, and I found myself rushing through exercises the moment I found issues were fixed to stay on pace with the course. If they had a better handle on the technical issues and better communicated those issues and progress fixing them with the students, I’d recommend this course.

Nice and well–organized course. I joined this course after self–studying on SQL for a few days. The context is really nice. The only problem is the Teradata is not stable. I tried very hard to login.

If you dont have programming experience, you will feel lost in the first few weeks. Like me, i feel like this is wrong thing for me from the beginning. But i have delayed long time and pay a lot of money. i have to learn something worth my money, then step by step, i start to feel the logic and why and how. This is worth the money. i will continue to learn. Thank you very much for sharing.

It’s been almost two weeks that I cannot get log into Teradata. Really disappointed…

the instructions of the final assignment seems a littble bit confusing. Many have reported the issues but the staffs didn’t respond in time and the materials haven’t been updated for a period.
Sanket S –
Great Course, as it covers everything from basic’s to advance level database management. All the important points were explained in very simple terms. I will definitely recommend this course to all my colleagues.
Gilad B L –
Excellent course. the assignments are really challenging and require actual practice at real world problem solving. there are some mistakes in the course materials that took me some precious time to figure out.
Joanna L –
It’s a very comprehensive course, that allows someone with zero knowlege to – after 5 weeks of classes – be pretty confident writing some intermediate queries and also become familar with Jupyter Notebooks which is of great value to me since it is universally used across my company, as well as more ‘corporate’ software for data retrieving like Teradata.

Great experience!!! I’m really happy I took this course. Great instructor, Great university.

It was a very good experience to learn MySQL in Coursera

You learn so much about SQL! Not just the basics, but very complex queries.
Christopher P R –
More practice on queries needed. Good course.
Jamille T N –
LOVE IT! Good for beginner, it will get a little bit complicated at Week 5 tho, but you understood all first 4 weeks’ materials, you will eventually get there.

A fantastic and challenging course to upgrade your technical skills from Excel to SQL! Highly recommended.
Jens J –
To the point knowledge on the most widespread essential skill in the analytics world.
Darshan N –
I have done some SQL courses before but I wish I had found this course before any other as the amount of practice and intensity of this course is best I have ever seen. Most of the other courses go one by one into SQL syntax with very little examples but the exposure to real–life data and corresponding conclusions is the best this course has to offer.
Yuqing Q –
The course is very practical and is friendly to beginners!
Haoran L –
Jana is the best
Mihailo P –
I believe that this course is very well structured and that, besides providing the knowledge of SQL language and different functions in it, it also teaches you how to think like a data analyst. For me it was challenging and it took me some time to complete it but I am very satisfied with what I learned and I am looking forward to continue learning and applying this knowledge in the future.
shisheng z –
super helpful! Realy enjoy taking this course! Thank you!!!
BINGYE C –
some quizzes are really really difficult:(
Mohammad A –
Great content, but this was over kill. The course was useful but I found it extremely straining to have to use 2 platforms (Jupyter and Teradata). I pretty much had to keep thinking everything twice, and it was over complicated especially that the Teradata website doesn’t run smoothly and had many connection issues.
Elham L –
Very interesting course.
Nazmus S S –
Good course, but tough.
LINDA A L –
Very Sharp Learning Curve, but worth the effort!!!
Sean E B –
It’s set out quite well and the videos and excercises are generally set out well and allow you to get good practice and learning. However the difficulty really ramps up during week 4 and especially week 5 (you are warned of this). The spike in time commitment and difficulty is quite overwhelming if you are an actual beginner.
SungJun P –
it was an amazing experience with MySQL and Teradata. I have learned a lot of detail information on how to create a query, and I hopefully can use this knowledge in my future career.
Antoine V –
Great course, detailed explanations and loads of practice writing queries make it very effective and enjoyable ! A big thank you to the instructors
