Learn how to create state of the art AI for video games using Unity.

I believe in a practical approach in learning so this course will be primarily project–based. You won’t just learn dry theory and forget everything within a matter of days but instead apply the learned concepts to two actual Unity–Projects:

Catch: A simple digital replica of play every kid’s favourite game: catch

Colony Simulation: A game like Rimworld or Oxygen Not Included, where you can’t control the NPCs directly, but instead they are controlled by the AI and you need to help them survive by making sure they’ve got enough to eat.

Also this course contains a free exclusive Behavior–Designer Educational–License, which would normally cost 70$. Behavior Designer is the industry–standard solution for Behaviortrees and generously provided me with an exclusive Educational License, which they specifically built for this course. So you won’t get it anywhere else.

Also you will of course get full lifetime access to the course.

We’ll start with the simplest AI–System that there is, namely State–Machines.

After that we’ll improve State–Machines and make them more extensible with the State–Pattern.

Then we’ll hit the main topic which is one of the more advanced techniques that are used in Indie– and AAA–Gameproductions alike: BehaviorTrees.

Hi, I'm Andreas, a software-engineer with 5 years of experience in teaching programming. I've graduated as a Master of Science in Informatics and Psychology at the University of Vienna and became a teacher shortly after that. As a part-time job I've been developing games professionally and as a hobbyist for about 8 years now. I've taught Unity at various universities and high schools in Austria and therefore have quite a bit of experience in teaching.

The instructor has a good focus on the motivation, pros, and cons of every technique he discusses. Very active answering student questions in his other courses too. The course is not extremely in depth though. Consider it a really fantastic introduction

The Introduction gives a bad early impression. I completely agree with Andreas’ approach to learning by doing, dividing every chapter into listen, learn, apply. But, the early videos already have a lot of background noise in them, which is very distracting for a video entirely dedicated to listening. His speech is very disorganized, lots of video cuts, unfinished sentences overall the recordings give an impression of unpreparedness.

Provides a good overview about the topic. You can see, that the teacher knows about the topic, but the video quality per se could be better. Distracting background noises and video cuts. But its still okay.

I’m quite impressed by the way of teaching, watched 4 videos and I can tell that there is really amazing stuff ahead. Best part is theory + practical thing the tutor does!

An intersting course, cristal clear instructor, good contents and resources also. Maybe with some additional examples and some deeping on some concepts, it could have reached 5 stars, at least as my level of knowldegde is.

When doing the concrete examples the course is very good. The pace is good and everything is clear. When talking theory the teacher is somewhat prone to going off on slight tangents or repetitions which can slow down progress. In general though I would recommend this course as a good starting point.

Great teaching style, short videos for each topic, go to the point and learning curve was above expectations.

I’ll start with some pretty major pros. I absolutely LOVE the use of more casual language and attitude (pg words/innuendo) and real world examples. Just a really relaxed learning atmosphere. What I didn’t like: The State Machine and Genetic Algorithm sections feel unfinished/tacked on. There aren’t any exercises, it’s just listening. Not conducive to learning at all. The conditional exercise in Behaviour Trees is a trick question. You teach us how to do a simple conditonal then do a bait and switch with the Compare Float conditional without hints that there might be some out of the box/future proofing thinking ahead.

A great AI course for people who know a bit about unity, grab this if you want to add more knowledge to your skillset. But if you are a beginner I will suggest you start with a beginner friendly course where they delve into vector maths and such.
