Have you ever wanted to speed up your level creation using Procedural Techniques? Have you ever tried to use Houdini or the Houdini Engine but hit road blocks that prevented you from being productive with the two applications? Then this course is for you!
Throughout this course we are going walk through every step of the way so it is not confusing at all. You will gain the confidence to begin building your own procedural race track tools for use inside of Unity 3d and Unreal Engine 4.
The course starts out by giving individuals new to Houdini, a quick start guide to using Houdini by teaching the basics of navigation, UI, modeling and creating Houdini Digital Assets. Once armed with that new knowledge we move onto the next level and start building out our Track tools.
With the Track tools we will learn how to effectively build a set of HDAs that will generate a Track complete with UV’s, the Track bumpers, and the Track Guard Rails. Through that section of the Course we will see how we can detect the direction of a turn in the Track so we can place either a Track Bumper or a Track Guard Rail. This will begin to open up the power of using Proceduralism in your game productions.

Houdini is a very robust application. Kenny provides a detailed roadmap to master the various components of Houdini.
Christopher McFadden –
Great pace, steps broken down in to good length easy to digest

The sheer amount of content on this course is staggering. Even if you’re not looking to go specifically into real time engines, there is so much stuff in here around procedural modelling/creation it’s worth it for that alone. The instructor seems very experienced and knows his stuff, the delivery is clear and confident, and the course support (including adding new content) is superb. Make no mistake, this is top tier learning content.

The first couple of videos started out slowly but I began to enjoy the presentation by the time the video with Houdini install guidance came around. The instructor is clear and concise.
Matthew Kotys –
Very detailed and gentle introduction to Houdini. Uses Houdini 17, but I’m not badly affected by the minor differences.

Kenny is a great instructor. He provides his tutoring with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He knows his way around Houdini and he sometimes shows multiple ways of dealing with a problem, but also challenges the student to find his/her own way in problemsolving. Sometimes Kenny tends to be a bit quick on the subject and skipping a bit of explenation. This rarely happens, but if it does he provides excellent feedback in the Q&A section. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn more procedural techniques (within Houdini) and transfer that knowledge into a game engine with the use of the Houdini Engine.

Indie Pixel is amazing, and if you want to tackle a large project in Houdini or get up to speed with how to use Houdini with Unity or Unreal, this course if for you. Compared to other professional training courses for Houdini, it’s an absolute steal even f you don’t get it on sale. So why isn’t it a five star course? There is actually too much content here. The difficulty ramps up quickly, and all those little differences between versions of Houdini start to add up to big problems for the learner, especially when IP makes changes to his node network between videos. He is good about mentioning what changed, but following along and getting correct results was difficult for some sections. I would have strongly preferred less content in exchange for more depth and a slower pace. You can tell IP is a professional who has shipped games before, but I think this course could have benefited from being toned down a bit. Absolutely do buy this course, but be aware that it may need to come a bit later in your Houdini learning journey than you might expect. Come in having done several modeling projects, have more than a passing familiarity with Vex, and know something about terrain before you see it here.
